In May of 2015, my dad went to the doctor complaining of abdominal pain in hopes to get some kind of relief. During that visit, a nurse discovered an irregular heart beat and he was admitted to the hospital.  He was then diagnosed with Atrial Fibrillation -a serious heart condition that needed medication that could not be taken until further testing of the abdomen.

After further testing, a MRI discovered that he had a golfball sized tumor in his liver. He was then sent to see a liver specialist and was diagnosed with a very rare and lethal form of cancer called "cholangiocarcinoma" or "bile duct" cancer.

My dad underwent a 10 hr surgery to remove the tumor. Fortunately, the doctor was able to remove all of the golfball size tumor including the left side of his liver -plus a little of the right side as well.  According to the doctor and in his exact words "that surgery was a pain in the ass! Imagine trying to get two pieces of tape apart without ripping them" (as he tried to explain why a 4 hr surgery took 10 hours). We all shook his hand with tears in our very concerned and thankful eyes.

We then waited for the pathology report in hopes for a miracle. After 5 days, the results were in. With his wife and children by his side, we were told that the pathology showed positive for microscopic cancer cells still present in the liver and lymph nodes. Chemotherapy and radiation therapy was recommended. Although the benefits of this are uncertain, we move forward with hopes and prayers that this will extend his life for at least another 5 years. This is a very difficult time for our family. However on top of the worry and fear of losing my dad, our family is about to incur some astronomical medical bills. My dad will be unable to work to supplement his income due to this unforeseen matter. Also, his 10 year term, life insurance policy had just ended and he is now unqualified to get more.

I am not one to ask for help, and so many of you have asked if there is anything you could do to help. I simply can't see any other way but to ask you to please find it in your heart to give a donation to help ease the burden of medical expenses and future funeral cost. This is the least I could do for my dad with all that he has been and has done for me and our family. He is the glue that holds us all together. He is the one who has a beautiful wife, five lucky children, three burly step sons, fifteen loving grandchildren and one sweet great grandchild. His devotion to his family includes having us all together at Christmas, making a huge spaghetti and meatball dinner and playing Santa Claus with gifts for each and every one of us.

My goal is to raise 35,000 which will help a great deal and allow my dad to concentrate on his quality of life instead of bills and how they are going to be paid.
I, along with my family, thank you from the bottom of our hearts. We appreciate everyone who can donate. If you are unable to donate, that's ok, please keep my dad in your prayers. We can never have enough of those and continue to need them equally as much.

With gratitude and love,
Lori Lancette & family
