RUNNING FOR RODNEY - One Crazy Man's Quest to Run 3 Miles Every Single Day During a Leap Year - #3For366
Rodney Speed is an American Rock N Roll Icon. He also happens to have been my best friend. When he passed away our entire world was stunned. On January 13th, 2016 I lost my best friend, my big brother, my little brother, my soul mate and my inspiration all at once. Rocks Off lost our mascot. The Rodney Speed Experience lost our leader. New York City lost our best DJ. The world of Rock N Roll lost our most loving and lively patron saint and its most spirited motivator and cheerleader… And the universe lost our biggest dreamer and its brightest soul.
On the day Rodney passed away I was in the middle of a challenge called #3For31, in which I pledged to run 3 miles every day for 31 days in January - a sort of physical New Year's resolution. When Rodney passed I decided to keep running, and made a pact with myself to go at least 53 days, one day for every year he was with us.
Day 53 came and went and, like Forest Gump, I just couldn't stop running. I knew right then I was gonna go every day for the rest of 2016 - a leap year! #3For366. I wanted to not only keep the memory of Rodney alive in my own mind, but to make sure those who knew him kept thinking about him, and spread far and wide the legend of Rockin' Rod.
Which is why I started filming my runs and making the Running For Rodney website and videos. And now I'm taking that one step further. Together we can bring Rodney Speed one step closer to immortality!
It is with great pride and honor that we can now announce the Rodney Speed Memorial Scholarship at Berklee College of Music. Seriously. There's gonna be a scholarship. Named after Rodney. At the Berklee College of Music!!! This will be an ongoing, need-based annual scholarship that will be given to a student from an underserved community who is studying Rock n Roll Guitar. The amount of the scholarship will depend on how much we can raise. The sky really is the limit!
I'm committed to running 3 miles every single day in 2016 - but I'm not going to stop Running For Rodney until we have reached our funding goal to set up this scholarship. Please donate today. Every little bit counts. My feet need a break. And a massage.
