In January my dad was diagnosed with stage 4 small cell lung cancer that spread to his brain. He has responded well to Treatment in the lungs and on the brain, and those spots right now are cancer free. However has had a few setbacks. At the end of May, he developed a blood clot that traveled from his legs to his lungs.  He is lucky he survived that.  The clot is continuing to break down and he is still taking shots for that.  As, of July, I have good news and bad news… Bad news is that it is there is a cancer spot on the adrenal gland. Good news is that they really feel like it was there in January, and the way the CT scan is it just didn’t pick up the entire spot. It is a 7mm spot. CT scans scan every 5mm, so it is possible that due to positioning, It didn’t pick up the entire spot. They can see portions of it on the January scan. On the February CT and May PET scans, taking during and at the end of chemo, the spot had responded and decreased. This spot never received radiation treatment. So, the good news is that the cancer is not spreading to new spots, which small cell lung cancer can agressively do. His kidneys, liver, bladder and bones all are clean. For this treatment, he has two choices, cyber knife radiation for 5 treatments or surgical removal. We talked it over and really feel like surgery is the best option. That removes the entire gland and eliminates return to that spot. With radiation, it could come back to that spot. His doctor leaned towards that choice too. All of his blood count levels were within good ranges. So, I’ll keep you posted as to when surgery is scheduled.

As many of you know, my dad is self employed, and he physically hasn't been able to do too much.  Your help is appreciated, as there are certain tests and portions of his recovery plan that insurance just won't pay, regardless of how much the medical team insists they are necessary.
