Robert and Vanessa

Spende geschützt
Tragedy struck on the morning of Monday, October 2, 2017, in the form of a house fire.  Robert Hernandez and Vanessa Harrison were awakened by the smell of smoke and discovered that their house was on fire.  Brave attempts were made by them to extinguish the flames but unfortunately the fire continued to grow, ultimately becoming a fully involved structure fire.  Thankfully they both were able to escape the fire but while doing so, they both sustained significant burns and inhaled carbon monoxide.

Robert and Vanessa are currently in the Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center’s Burn Unit ICU receiving treatment.  They both suffered first, second, and third degree burns totaling 20% of their body surface areas.  They are awake and alert but as you can imagine they are in pretty severe pain.  While they are expected to make a full recovery, they have a very long healing road ahead of them including undergoing skin grafts.  The doctors are now advising that Robert and Vanessa will be in the hospital for approximately three more weeks and potentially even longer than that.

The most important thing is that Robert and Vanessa are alive and are going to be ok.  Had they not have gone through the flames and escaped the house when they did, the outcome would have resulted in the loss of their lives.  Unfortunately, such was the case for some of their pets.

Their house and all of its contents were completely destroyed by the fire.  They lost everything except for their lives and their vehicles.  Robert and Vanessa are very thankful to be alive.  The reality and the gravity of the predicament they are facing is overwhelming.  After being released from the hospital, they must find: a new place to live, clothes to wear, a bed to sleep in, toiletries, furniture, household items, all the other items that are required for daily living, and funds to pay the very expensive medical bills.

There has been a huge outpouring of love, concern, prayers, and support for them.  They are very appreciative to everyone to the extent that words will never do justice for how much it has meant to them. Robert and Vanessa don’t ask for assistance, especially when it comes to money or other needed items.  This page has been setup with the hope and the intention that funds, clothing, and other items might be raised to assist them with getting back on their feet.  If you can help them, please do so.  Any donation is greatly appreciated and will assist them regardless of whether it be a monetary donation, clothing donation, or an item.  Please also continue to pray for them.

As a side note, this page has been created by Kynlee Hernandez (their daughter) without any request or urging from them. They continue to be troopers through this whole process.  Please if possible let us all come together to help ease the burdens of what they face once they get out of the hospital.  Thank you, thank you, thank you.
