Dads Journey with Non-Hodgkin Lymphoma

Our Dad  (Robert DeSopo) and His Incredible Journey with Non-Hodgkin's Lymphoma

 We need your help!   Please stand with us as we support our Dad in his battle with non-Hodgkin's Lymphoma.

Our Dad, Robert DeSopo, has been fighting a blood disorder called Diffused Large B Cell Non-Hodgkin's Lymphoma since September 2012.  In itself a very aggressive disease, it has been complicated by what is called a "double hit" where two genes (instead of one) are found to be abnormal.  This disorder, a form of cancer, is treated through numerous rounds of Chemotherapy.  His oncologist felt that his best chance at beating this would be through a bone marrow transplant.  His sister Josephine willing volunteered  to be his donor when she was found to be a perfect match.  We are so blessed that Aunt Jo was able to do this and we are so grateful for her dedication and support.  On January 22, 2013, he received the bone marrow stem cell transplant. 

Because of the transplant, our Dad has now been dealing with congestive heart failure.  The transplant process has further weakened his already weak heart and he has recently spent more time recovering in the hospital.

At home, our mom and dad have to monitor his progress, possible side effects, and watch for symptoms of rejection of his donor's cells, in addition to making his regularly scheduled visits several times a week at the Cancer Center.  Our mother Karen, his full time caregiver, will not be able to return to work for at least 6 months to a year. In addition to their everyday living expenses, the  medical bills keep mounting and they are spending at least twice as much as what money they do have coming in each month. Our parents mean so much to us and we really want to help them with the fight against this horrible disease.

Our dad has given so much of himself over the years.  You might not know that he is a Vietnam Veteran and an active member of Rutherford Bible Chapel, where he was a youth leader for many years. Most of all, our dad, is an amazing, loving husband, father of 3 and grandfather of 7.   We are all so proud of the strength he has shown and the fighter he is. HE HAS ALWAYS BEEN THERE FOR US, AND NOW WE WANT TO DO EVERYTHING WE CAN TO HELP HIM.

We are asking you to find it in your heart to donate to help our parents through this difficult time. The money raised will go to whatever is needed; medical bills, home care, living expenses, etc. there is no amount too small or too big.  Anything you are able to contribute is a true blessing and so very much appreciated.
