Rob Kenific's Medical Fund

My good friend and brother in law Rob Kenific, who a little over a year ago was officiating my wedding to his sister Stephanie, now needs our help. Rob recently moved to Denver and is a few weeks away from a promotion to a wonderful new job with a software engineering startup. On June 30th, Rob was in a pedestrian crossing on Colfax Ave when a motorist ran a red light. Rob, who was on his bike, was struck by the Jeep Cherokee at approximately 30 miles per hour. He was thrown from his bicycle, which landed over 30 feet away. Rob laid on the pavement wondering if he would survive, and people surrounded him, trying to make him comfortable before the ambulance arrived... but his injuries were horrific. As he would later learn at Denver Health, his left leg was essentially broken in half- he suffered a compound fracture below the knee of his tibia and fibula that required surgery and several screws to repair. His pelvis is also broken in two places, and his right wrist is broken so badly that his doctors are still trying to decide the best way to treat it.

Rob has been in the hospital now for 4 nights, and may not be released for 2 or 3 more days. Following his release, he will need extensive physical therapy to regain his normal level of movement and function, so that he may eventually be able to get back to the activities he enjoys- rock climbing, bicycling, and frisbee golf. It will be a long road, and he will likely need to push back his start date for his new job so that he can focus on recovery. While I am confident that Rob's tenacity and positive outlook on life will lead to a full recovery, there will be substantial financial hurdles to overcome. Rob's health insurance coverage through his new job will not begin until at least July 15th. Worst of all, the police report revealed that the driver who struck him, despite being cited for a criminal charge of careless driving resulting in injury, was not insured. A lawyer has been contacted, but Rob's prospects of receiving compensation for his medical bills, physical therapy, and lost wages are not optimistic.

This couldn't have happened to a better, more thoughtful person- as Rob waited in agony for care in the emergency room, his thoughts were for his family, his friends, and even the driver who struck him, because he was so worried about the stress that this accident would cause them.  If you know Rob, this won't surprise you. Please help by giving whatever you can to get him through this major setback which will delay his next chapter in life. Your donations will be used to get him into a rehabilitation program, as well as to cover hospital bills, possible legal fees, and the inevitable other expenses that he will incur. The lost wages from his current and upcoming job will also be offset by your generosity. Thank you so much for reading Rob's story and considering making a pledge to help him get back on his feet.
