URGENT UPDATE !!

Rich has been beating the odds, yet the time has come when the Chemotherapy treatment has stopped working. There is one more treatment he is able to do and which the oncologist believes will help him beat the odds once again. It is at this point we need urgent help.  Due to Medicaids share-of-cost rules we are unable to purchase his medical supplies including must have colostomy equipment, prescriptions (of which there are many). Doctor co-pays, etc. Rich has a strong will to live and we LOVE him very much. I promise you the world is a much better place with him in it. Our family thanks you for the help you have given, and are asking once more for any help you can give. Any amount big or small would be incredibly useful. We believe quite literally, you will be saving his life and keeping our family  together for years to come. Godspeed to all !

On February 8th, on my brother's birthday, our father, Richard Behrens, was diagnosed with Stage IV Colon Cancer. This cancer has already metastasized and spread to his liver.  His doctor explained to us that the tumor in his colon is so large that it has made it virtually impossible for him to have a bowel movement. Not only that but 80% of his liver is covered in cancerous tumors. Right now he is fighting for his life at Halifax Medical Center in Daytona Beach, Florida.

Unfortunately that is only the beginning of the problems he and his family are facing. For the past few years our mother has been dealing with her own medical issues. She has severe arthritis, sciatica, and a severely deterioriated hip that due to insurance problems she had to wait 3 years longer than she should have to get the necessary hip replacement surgery. She is still not fully recovered from said surgery and cannot work. This makes my dad the sole income provider for their household.

Like most Americans he lives paycheck-to-paycheck and has very little savings to dip into for emergencies like this.

With his subpar insurance there are many things that he cannot afford on such short notice such as a high deductable, prescription costs, and (but not limited to) anything that may not covered by the insurance.

He also has the same daily living expenses he had prior to his cancer diagnosis such as his car loan and insurance payements, mortgage, maintenance medication for his asthma as well as my mother's medication.

Me and my siblings are doing everything we can to help out our parents. We will all be living together to help offset the loss of my father's income. Any assistance from this GoFundMe will be used to pay for my father's extensive medical bills as well as making sure he has a home to come back to as he recovers.

Our father, husband, and son is a man that has spent his entire adult life dedicated to his family. He has worked long hours his entire life to make sure his family is taken care of. Anyone who has met him knows that he is a kind-hearted, loving person. He has been with his wife, our mother, since they were both teenagers; she would be completely lost without him. He has never hesitated to help his family and friends that were in need and we are hoping that with a little help from you we can repay him for his endless kindess and give him the financial help that he needs to survive.

He is a heavy Harley Davidson and all around motorcycle enthusiast. He has owned his customized 1986 FXR for almost two decades. He has gone on multiple charity rides to benefit fallen riders in the Daytona Beach area. Unfortunately he has agreed to sell it in order to cover the cost of treatment of his condition.

Thank you for reading his story. Any help you can provide will be endlessly appreciated. Even if you cannot spare any money yourself please share his story to anyone you can. Every little bit helps.
