Help me replace Maude!

Most of you who know me are aware of how stubborn I am. So you all will understand how uncomfortable I feel when it comes to asking for help. Creating this page was a little out of character for me- I'm still not certain if I will share it with my friends and family but on the off chance that I do, know that this is a huge step for me in an attempt to bring some change into my life.

Currently, Crystal and I rely on a 50cc Genuine Buddy Scooter to get around town. It is the only vehicle that we have and it is as impractical as it sounds. With two adult women and 7 pets in our household, it is time for a car.

Almost everyone knows about the scooter spill that I had last year. Some guy cut me off in the rain, I ended up eating pavement to avoid ramming the back of his car, taking a trip to the ER (I walked away with bruised thighs, scraped knees and raw elbows- thank goodness!), and finding out later that neither of us were at fault- according to the police report. Meaning that I was stuck with the repair bill for my nonfunctioning scooter, which I wasn't even able to pay. My amazing girlfriend has helped me out financially with "Maude" time and time again just so that I would have transportation to and from work. Even before the accident, Maude never seemed to be a reliable mode of transportation with the unpredictable Florida weather and her unfortunate habit of breaking down. Now I am realizing after a little over a year that she doesn't have much life left in her (for me anyway) and that I need to find an alternative relatively soon.

A scooter would be awesome for recreational use or for someone with a different lifestyle, but relying on one to commute to work anywhere between 4 and 11 times per week is a little far-fetched. It has worked for me for the past year but after moving in with Crystal and driving 28+ miles every work day (I'm not kidding! It is a 14.4 mile roundtrip to Southwood and I make that drive 1-2 times per day) I have decided that I need to look into buying a car. With the somewhat "crazy" hours that I work (four shifts from 7am-6pm plus Moonlites every night sometime between 9pm-12am) and the hours that I am now putting toward qualifying for roller derby, catching the bus isn't always an option. A car would cut my commute to and from work and possibly allow me to spend more time at home with Crystal and all of our "kids." (Bringing home food and cat litter for seven pets on the scooter or on foot is no easy feat, either!).

Ideally, any money given through this page would be used as a down payment for a Ford Fiesta. I am not opposed to buying a used car but with the discount that I could potentially receive through Ford, it only makes sense to put money into a reliable vehicle for me, Crystal and the "kids." If the right used car comes along I would absolutely take the offer over taking on the responsibility of a monthly car payment.

I understand that with money being tight for a lot of you, as it is for me, this is a huge favor to ask. If you are able to help with a lead/connections to a reliable used car or you can help me save up for a used car/down payment for a new car, I would be incredibly grateful. If there is any way that I could repay you, whether it be in the form of my time (something along the lines of petsitting/work/rides/being your forever D.D. for nights out, etc.) or monetary repayment, please let me know. I am not the type of person to accept something like this without trying to pay it back or pay it forward. If you are able to help me out make sure I know who you are so that I can thank you properly!

With my monthly income and my bills, there is no way for me to afford this on my own before the scooter is kaput. A car would mean that I wouldn't have to worry about whether or not I'm going to break down on my way to or from work/weekly roller derby off skates and boot camp. It would also give Crystal the opportunity to learn to drive, offer us a reliable way to get our animals to and from the vet, and promise an easier day to day schedule. Any assistance, from $5 to $20 to $100 would not go un-thanked!
