Study Abroad Trip to Lima, Peru- May '14

Donation protected

Hello friends and family,
As many of you know I am currently in my Junior year at Spelman College studying Psychology with a minor in Early Childhood Development. Upon graduation I plan to serve a year with the City Year program and then continue on to graduate school. I aspire to to work with children with disabilities and to one day start my on non-profit organization or practice centered on children with disabilities. While here at Spelman I have accomplished many goals I have set for myself and I am grateful for all the wonderful experiences I've had. I am asking for your support in helping me to accomplish another goal of mine that I have had while here at Spelman: the opportunity to study abroad. I recently learned that I have been accepted into the CIEE Intercultural Engagement trip to Lima, Peru taking place this May. The course will help students develop the knowledge, skill, and understanding to communicate and engage effectively across cultures, and ultimately become a more effective leader in today's globalizing world. In addition to intercultural skills that can be used in a wide variety of situations, we will learn about socioeconomic, political, and cultural issues in Lima, Peru. The course includes lectures and discussions, cultural activities and excursions, and assignments that will engage us in the local culture. I have received a scholarship from Spelman which has helped to offset some the cost, however I still need to cover the rest of the tuition for the trip along with the cost of international airfare.

Why should you support?...
In my time here at Spelman I have been involved in a variety of clubs, organizations, and community service projects on and off campus. Currently, I serve as the Co-Director of Programming for the Spelman College Residence Hall Association planning events and activities for the students on campus. I also serve as the Secretary of the organization Peace + Love AUC which focuses on bringing awareness to domestic violence and other types of violence in our school community and the surrounding community of Atlanta and how to use alternative methods of expression other than violence. In addition, I volunteer with the Jumpstart program to teach preschool students in urban Atlanta the language and literacy skills they need to enter kindergarten with the same advantages as their suburban peers. Furthermore, I am a newly accepted member into the Sigma Alpha Pi Society for Leadership and Success. I have also recently been chosen to be a Spelman College Student Ambassador. Soon, due to your support, I will be able to add studying abroad in Lima, Peru to this list as well.

How can you help?...
I am asking that you please support me through whatever donation amount you are able to give. There are suggestions listed for donation amounts and information on the ways I will thank you for your support. These are just suggestions however. Feel free to donate any amount you are able to even if not listed. If you are not able to support me monetarily at this time I understand. I ask for your continued thoughts and prayers as I progress through my journey here at Spelman College. Thank you and I appreciate your support!

With love and blessings,
Renatta J. Landrau
