Today, there was no time for pictures...
My name is Cathy Daniel Davis and I'm from Macon, Ga. My brother, Remer Craig Daniel, & his family live in Houston, TX. Over the years they have experienced several major hurricanes, including Katrina. Much like these other times, they were told not to evacuate for fear of millions of people being stranded on roadways, only the lower lying areas were evacuated. Keeping a very watchful eye on Harvey, they began making preparations for some flooding in their area, the Kingwood district. Initially, it appeared that flooded streets would keep them homebound for a while. Then came reports of several dams having to be opened. They prayed the dam near them would not be one of them-it was. Rapidly, things changed drastically. In the wee hours of the night last night, when the dam was opened, water began rising. My brother, his wife, & their 4 children began moving anything they could to the second floor of their house. It wasn't long and water was rising above the countertops in their kitchen. Rescue boats were then in the area-some from as far away as Florida & California. A helicopter hovered overhead rescuing a neighbor experiencing a medical emergency. About that time, a boat (already carrying some of their neighbors) arrived. They were all rescued carrying one small bag each, leaving everything else behind. As they looked back, water was almost covering their vehicles and was half way up their front door. They traveled across the golf course by boat-across 14 foot waters on top of the golf course-to dry ground.
They are grateful though-they say they are some of the lucky ones...
PLEASE consider donating any amount you can. As you can imagine, it will be a long time before they, or anyone affected by this horrible hurricane, will receive any relief. The money I am raising will go to food, clothing, shelter, and toward the replacement costs of some of their personal items while they await some sort of relief from FEMA.
Continue to keep my bother and his family, along with all those affected, as well as all of the many rescue workers and volunteers, in your thoughts and prayers!
