Remembering Mike Norbut

Donation protected
Please join us in honoring and celebrating the life of Mike Norbut (November 30, 1941 – September 28, 2017).

My name is Don Butcher and Mike Norbut was my best friend.

Mike passed peacefully, at home, surrounded by family and friends, following a seven-year fight against cancer. A warrior until the end, he lived – and left us – on his own terms, joyously, stubbornly living to celebrate the wedding of Liz to his beloved son Danny and the birth of his grandchildren, Aurora “Lola” and Damian.

Anne, Mike’s cherished wife of 38 years, says that we’ll all be invited to a celebration of Mike’s life in the next weeks, just the way Mike wanted – a BBQ in their San Fernando Valley backyard, happy memories, good friends, and, most of all, the chance to honor Mike’s memory, and to share Mike stories and hugs!

In the meantime, please help with a contribution of any kind to help support the family and pay for final expenses. Please share to compound your generosity.

If you knew him at all, you knew Mike’s kindness and his generosity. One of the young men who stopped by to pay his respects last night recalled Mike’s unquestioning generosity: “He’d always fuss at us for smoking pot, but then he’d always buy us munchies, always stock the grill for us.”

That’s Mike.

As my wife Julie wrote earlier this week, “I remember a long time ago, Mike, during the civil unrest in LA in 1992. Don was working 'round the clock. You drove to Echo Park from the far Valley that Friday night, loaded up Matthew, Steven, & me into whatever big-ass truck you were driving, and sped us off to safety of Sylmar (or were you guys in Lakeview Terrace by then?)

We've got so many of those stories, across the years. Mike, you have loved & taken care of my family as your own. And while our lives may have drifted on occasion, our hearts never have.

We love you, Brother. Today and always.”

That’s my friend. That’s Mike Norbut.

His kindness and his generosity. His work ethic. And his love of Annie and of his family. That’s Mike – a good, good man, a real mensch.

“One thing about flying that he never got used to was that no matter how awful the weather was on the ground, if you flew high enough you could always find the sun.”
~ Tom Clancy

We love you, Mike. Now & always ~
