Rekhas Medical Expenses

On Saturday, March 10, 2018, at 12:45 pm, Rekha and her family were traveling on a back road in the country near Clear Lake, California, to attend a tulip festival nearby. All of a sudden, the car veered off the road, and RamDas, Rekha's husband, who was driving, could not control the vehicle. The car went off the road and down an embankment, where it smashed into a huge tree.
Ramdas sustained head injuries, but was able to leave the car on his own and pulled Rekha and their 4-year old, Amritashree (Trideepa) from the car. fortunately someone called 911 and emergency response teams quickly responded. Friends traveling behind them were helpful in getting important personal items from the car as the the family was being loaded onto helicopters to be quickly transported to a hospital's emergency medical center.
RamDas sustained a severe gash in his head, and suffered from a concussion, but was released from the hospital after 24 hours. Amritashree experienced a broken shoulder, but it was diagnosed as not serious and would heal within a week.
Rekha, on the other hand, was thrown from the back seat into the front dashboard and sustained multiple fractures in her right leg, fractures in the right orbital bone around the eye, as well as broken ribs and a fracture in the T11 vertebrae in her spine. Her surgery was extensive, including cosmetic and due to infection in her eye, additional surgery was needed to address the infection. This included undoing the original cosmetic implant along the lower rim of her orbital bone. Rekha's recovery will take many many months, and will require
regular physical therapy.
RamDas's company insurance was limited to a fraction of the medical costs, which amount to over $750,000, so the majority of these bills will not be covered by insurance. The helicopter trips alone accounted for over $150,000 for the 3 family members.
Ramdas's job as an IT contractor does not guarantee steady income, and so the family is extremely concerned about being able to meet these incredibly exorbitant medical expenses.
