I come to you to help give me the wings I need to continue this journey. My journey has been filled with hills and valleys, but we are at a point where it's time to harvest all the hard work and move to the next level. Mom always said I had "Caviar dreams with a fried chicken budget..." , and I've always had a knack for finding a silver lining in difficult situations. Since I decided years ago to take on my craft FULL-TIME, I've seen how straining it can be to pursue a large vision with limited resources. On occasion, one may miss out on huge opportunities simply because they don't have the financial security needed to move forward. Ya'll know the cost of living in NYC is ridiculous.
~Herein lies my dilemma~
The first part of this request is about supporting and representing my current work. I am featured in a new micro-budget film entitled "The Winds That Scatter" by Christopher J. Bell that is currently making it's waves in the festival circuit. Shot in Arabic and English, we debut here in Brooklyn at the Northside Film Festival June 10th, but then the film is playing Seoul, South Korea (KOREA EXPAT FILM FESTIVAL ) June 19 and in Madrid, Spain (MADRID INTERNATIONAL FILM FESTIVAL ) in mid July -- where we are up for BEST FORIEGN FEATURE FILM. Can you imagine wanting all your life to be on screen...working towards it, finally achieving it with some consistency, and premiering in different continents across the world? I couldn't either... until NOW. Well, the production isn't able to send the actors to the festivals, but this is where you come in! This is the type of opportunity that doesn't come along for everyone, and I'd love to be able to participate and represent the film and what it stands for. While I'd love to attend both festivals, each one costs at least $1500, and that's just for the flight alone, not including living expenses while there. Whatever I receive will help and time is of the essence.
The second part of the request is about helping me to secure FUTURE work. Most of you are probably familiar with the Screen Actors Guild and American Federation of Television and Radio Artists (SAG-AFTRA). If you aren't, basically they are the joined union that represents and employs just about ALL of the film and TV industry and protects the rights of all involved. The cost to join this union increases bi-annually and currently sits at about $3200 (including membership and join fees), but the investment would reap major benefits for my future as an artist. I became eligible to join SAG-AFTRA this spring but work hasn't been as consistent as it would potentially be after joining.
The last thing here is: THIS IS COMPLETELY DOABLE! Social Media has enabled us the reach to connect with people across the world and I'm connected to at least 5000 of you via Facebook alone, not to mention other platforms such as Twitter, Instagram and LinkedIN. Do whatever you can--- $1, $5, $10, $20...add a few zeroes if you like, but help this midwestern boy achieve his Hollywood dreams and revel in being a part of that success! If you've read this far and decided that you wouldn't be able to make a monetary donation, please be sure to pass this along to your friends, and your friends friends...! I've debated going this route for the last month or so, but push has come to shove, and no time is greater than the present.
I plan to add some video clips and links soon, but I just wanted to get the movement started... the goal is to raise this money in the next 30 days, but again, time is of the essence and the sooner we get there...the sooner WE get THERE.
