LGBTQI Refugee Community Meeting and Celebration

The Refugee Coalition of East Africa (RefCEA) is raising funds for our Annual General Meeting to cover to cost of transportation, food, meeting space rental, and increased security as well as to provide stipends for the Organizing Committee. All funds donated will cover costs for this event benefiting LGBTQI refugees.
Still reeling from the Kenyan High Court's decision upholding discriminatory and colonial anti-sodomy laws, the LGBTQI refugee community in Kenya has called our second Annual General Meeting to discuss the way forward. At this year's gathering, we will elect new leadership, discuss future plans, and the Coalition will introduce the Strategic Plan for LGBTQI Refugees (authored in collaboration with 25 representatives from various refugee groups). Finally, the day will conclude with a celebration marking the 2nd Annual International LGBTQI Refugee Day, held one week following World Refugee Day. These events will all take place on 27 June 2019 on the outskirts of Nairobi.
This event is made possible, in part, through support from a grant by InterPride in the UK . We need your help to raise the remaining, necessary funds.
The Refugee Coalition is raising additional funds to cover transportation costs, food, meeting space rental and increased security costs as well as provide stipends for the Organizing Committee. All funds donated will go to the event and benefit LGBTQI refugees.
The Refugee Coalition of East Africa (RefCEA) is a registered, community organization established to unite the various independent LGBTQI refugee organizations in East Africa under an umbrella organization in order to facilitate long-term planning, advocacy, and representation, and to provide fiscal management and fundraising support for its members. Additionally, RefCEA oversees research initiatives representing the LGBTQI refugee community and works toward improving conditions for refugees during the resettlement waiting period.
Our Vision :
We envisage a unified, empowered, and self-reliant LGBTQI refugee community in Kenya which is protected and supported in all pertinent matters.
Our Goals :
- Ensure unity among LGBTQI refugee Community Based Organizations in Kenya
- Advocate for the human rights and the wellbeing of the LGBTQI refugee communities in Kenya
- Fundraise for the programs that will benefit the community
- Achieve visibility of the LGBTQI refugee community

This crowdfunding campaign is being hosted by Michael B. Clark, member of the Advisory Board of the Refugee Coalition of East Africa, (RefCEA). Funds donated to this campaign will be deposited from GoFundMe into a personal bank account of Mr. Clark, from there the funds will be transferred via mPesa mobile money to Hudson Fredrick, treasurer for the Refugee Coalition of East Africa, and from that point, into the Kenya-based bank account of the organization. All funds donated to this campaign will go to RefCEA, minus the fees taken by GoFundMe and mPesa.
