Rally for Sam!

Donation protected
Suzanne (Sam) Theis recently broke both shoulders and both arms in multiple places and is faced with a long recovery period.

Sam needs home healthcare visits for physical and occupational therapy, but is unable to afford the $100 per-day price tag.

Without this therapy she may face permanent damage, and limit her mobility in the future. She will soon learn if she needs surgery on her other shoulder, which would set back her recovery significantly and further compound the difficulties she deals with every day.

Instead of focusing on recovering and resting, Sam is concerned about working enough to pay her rent and bills. On top of that, the recovery care she needs most is too expensive.

But there is more to Sam's story than broken bones. Read on, and please donate!

In 2000, Sam was diagnosed with multiple sclerosis (MS). Over the years, daily life and work have become increasingly difficult.

Regular chemotherapy helps treat the MS, but leaves Sam sick and has weakened her bones.

In recent years, Sam's family, friends and doctors have inspired her to get out of the house, to enjoy life, and to get into good physical shape to help combat her MS. But her condition varies day to day. Some days, she is able to rally the strength to go dancing with friends (although it's still painful) and other days, she hurts too much to get out of bed.

This past year, she set a goal to become a runner. By keeping at it and adding running to her daily routine, she achieved that goal and has stuck with it!

While on a run in October, she fell and broke both shoulders, and both arms, in several places. She was hospitalized for over a week and had surgery to place 12 screws in one shoulder.

She left the hospital with both arms in slings, unable to drive or to feed herself—all the while struggling to continue to work from home (she does computer support for a small business who has donated one week of vacation to her).

During her fall, she broke her glasses, and needs to buy a new pair. If it wasn't hard enough to work while in pain and with arms that don't move easily, she also can't see!

She needs our help to take some stress off her mind, feel some love, make ends meet, pay for in-home healthcare, and new glasses! We can do this!
