Help Baltimore Arts Resistance Launch
Baltimore Arts Resistance (BAR) is a non profit organization working to highlight Baltimore city’s Black artists and bring healing to our underserved communities through the arts. BAR is an outgrowth of Queers 4 Black Lives (Q4BL), a coalition of Queer activists committed to fighting for the elevation of the Black community and the eradication of white supremacy, through demonstrations of peaceful protest and radical celebration.
As each member of Q4BL attended protests throughout the city, we noticed a collective sense of despair and confusion after such events. Joy is a crucial ingredient in the fight for social justice that we often see overlooked. To battle the fatigue inherent to the struggle for equality, BAR will provide other social justice organizations with artists to perform at their functions and manage said artists and the performance space.
BAR will support Black artists by creating opportunities for collaboration, continuing education, exposure and employment. We will carve out physical and digital space for progressive, Black artists to share their work with Baltimore’s residents (and beyond) and promote the greatest city in a positive light.
BAR will transform Baltimore into a living, active museum by filling it’s underprivileged neighborhoods with art, and providing it’s residents access to the arts. All ages of Baltimore’s residents benefit from exposure to art and art training, which can help facilitate healing processes and provide individuals with language to express themselves effectively and intelligently.
BAR will uplift Baltimore’s Black youth by connecting them to art education, fostering their artistry, and managing and promoting their artistic efforts. Providing our young people with more options helps them develop better decision making skills, which will ultimately help reduce violence in Baltimore.
BAR is an answer to the question we asked ourselves as activists repeatedly; How can we contribute to real, long lasting progress in our city?
We have big goals and we need your help to accomplish them!
Your donation today will be used as seed money to help grow our organization and pay the artists who will perform in our first virtual showcase this spring.
Make a minimum donation of $20 and receive a free ticket to Raising the Bar Spring Showcase, scheduled to take place in late May. All donations are welcome and greatly appreciated!
Have questions about what we’re up to? Feel free to contact us. We love talking about our projects!
