Racing for College Summit

Tax deductible
Greetings Friends,

Over the past five years I have had the honor and privilege of teaching and coordinating the College Summit program at the Duke Ellington School of the Arts ("DESA") in Washington D.C. College Summit is a non-profit that we partner with to provide curriculum, technology, and guidance to prepare our students (many of whom are low-income or the first generation in their family to go to college) for the college application and financial aid process.

Since 2009 approximately 250 Duke Ellington School of the Arts scholar-artists have participated in the College Summit program. I am proud to say that 99% of the students in the class have graduated (in a District with a 50% high school graduation rate) and all of the students who have graduated have been accepted into institutions of higher learning. Nearly thirty students have had the opportunity to spend four days on a college campus the summer before their senior year honing their leadership skills, personal statements, and college lists. Just last year College Summit students were accepted and received impressive scholarships and grants to colleges and universities including Carnegie Mellon University, Skidmore College, Temple University, and SUNY Purchase College. Our future goal is that 100% of College Summit students not only enroll, but also graduate from institutions of higher learning.

On October 6th at 7:20am I will jump into Centennial Lake in Elliott City, Maryland to kick-off the REV3 Olympic Triathlon (.9 mile swim, 25 mile bike, 6.5 mile run). I'm looking forward to the race and to doing my part to inspire and support College Summit students at DESA. The Duke Ellington School of the Arts must pay to continue our College Summit partnership, and with school budgets always shrinking, I have taken on the responsible of funding this critical program.

Please consider supporting my race and most importantly the College Summit students at DESA. All donations will go directly to the "Duke Ellington School of the Arts Project", a 501 (c)(3) attached to the school.

College Summit students and I both thank you very much for your support!

Best regards,
Seth
