Changing Children's lives in Sweden

"The child is both a hope and a promise for mankind." "“ Maria Montessori
I am so excited and blessed to participate in such a great opportunity!

I will be continuing my Masters Degree in Family and Child Studies through classes offered at Stockholm University, my home institution of Texas State University, as well as participating in a very UNIQUE opportunity. I have been blessed to further my education, my professional, and my personal experiences by living in Stockholm Sweden for six months beginning in January 2014. I will be interning at a local child development center in Stockholm and will be incorporating my child development knowledge with the institution. Through this internship, I will be creating and implementing a program based on the developmental needs of the children. It is my goal to create and implement a program that will be able to continue to benefit the children and the institution far past my time there.

I have been working full time to put myself through graduate school and have been able to maintain a high GPA, as well as being a member of the Phi Upsilon Omicron honors society for the school of family and consumer sciences. My experiences with children range from infancy to adolescence in very diverse settings. I feel confident that my academic, work, and personal experiences have prepared me to travel to Sweden to implement a beneficial program. This program will be based on linguistic, physical, cognitive, social, or emotional developmental needs.

It is my goal to utilize this opportunity to build my knowledge and to diversify my skills from others. This is a unique academic and cultural experience that will provide me with better opportunities in my professional and academic careers, in both the short and long term.

Due to the uniqueness of this opportunity, I will be unable to continue to work and to financially support myself. With this being said, I would really appreciate your support in any form you are able to give, monetarily or not.

THANK YOU,
Rachel Mouser

"You see a child play, and it is so close to seeing an artist paint, for in play a child says things without uttering a word. You can see how he solves his problems. You can also see what's wrong. Young children, especially, have enormous creativity, and whatever's in them rises to the surface in free play." "“ Erik Erikson
