22q11.2 is a genetic syndrome caused by a missing piece of chromosome 22. Children with this syndrome can have developmental delays, learning differences, behavioral problems, speech abnormalities, and often congenital heart disease and problems fighting infections. This syndrome can be more common than Down syndrome (occurring in 1 in 2000 births), and is usually not detected until well after birth, which means that important treatments are delayed. Early or prenatal detection allows for earlier treatment, which can significantly improve the lives of children and families affected with this syndrome. Your donation to the International 22q11.2 Foundation will help.
Natera (a prenatal screening and diagnostics company) is partnering with the International 22q11.2 Foundation to raise money for the cause. We are hosting a “2.2 for 22q” walk/run on September 19, 2014, and proceeds from this fundraising effort will go to the foundation. Natera will even match individual donations, up to a total of $30,000! Donations will be accepted through September 19th, and you don’t have to participate in the walk/run to contribute.
The earlier this syndrome is detected the more doctors can do to help. Although there is no cure for the 22q11.2 syndrome, many therapies and medical interventions are available to help address its associated symptoms.
Join us on September 19th at 6:30am to participate in "2.2 for 22q" at the NSGC conference in New Orleans this September!!!
Natera will host a 2.2 mile fun run/walk where proceeds raised will support the International 22q11.2 Foundation, Inc. The mission of the foundation is to improve the quality of life for individuals affected by the 22q11.2 syndromes through family and professional partnerships.
To make this event successful, we want to encourage everyone to raise money to support this important cause! To help motivate you, Natera will match individual fundraising efforts beyond the first $25 (registration fee) up to $30,000.
That means if you raise $150, Natera will match your fundraising efforts dollar to dollar and that $150 becomes $300 to benefit the International 22q11.2 Foundation - we would love to hit that $30,000 mark!
