A Unique Free Family Show in San Diego

Donation protected
Hi, my name is Erika Phillips, and I am producing what I hope will be a wonderful piece of theatre for kids and their adults in the San Diego Fringe Festival about the importance of imagination.

It is called Jackie and the BeansTalk.

Out of the clear blue wonder, a kooky band of musical misfits rolls into town on an old RV, with a magical re-planting of Jack and the Beanstalk. International, inventive, and interactive; for adults and their children.

NBC Plaza at Broadway Circle. July 5-6 & 12-13, 12noon and 3pm.

Free to the public.   Fringe Info HERE.

This project combines a number of dream elements for me.

1. Producing AMAZING children's theatre:  I've worked in and seen a lot of theatre for young audiences. Good theatre for young audiences is expansively imaginative, highly visual, deeply connective, and a treat for adults.  No afterschool specials.

2. Collaborating with two of my favorite artists:  I've known these fellas since the early 1990s.  They are both out-of-the-box thinkers, imaginative players, and extremely talented.  Koen Van Loocke's a master sculpter & painter, a musician, and theatre director.  James Pillar is a master in creating original theatre pieces and connecting with youth; he's also the Director of Conservatory at La Jolla Playhouse.  And I'm me, click for info. In 2009, we collaborated musically as The Abandonettes, on harmonium, drums and guitar. It was magic.

3. Using My RV as a Theater - Everytime I look at my old RV, I think - that looks like a theater!  I think it will be tremendous fun for the audience to see us roll up, pop out, climb up and treat the windows as puppet theatres and whatever else we can figure out.

4. Doing something DIFFERENT - I don't think San Diego already has a theatre that pops out of an RV.  Let's shake it up.

Your dollars will contribute to plane tickets, artist room and board, prop, set, sound and costume design and creation, vehicle maintenance and artist stipend.

And it goes beyond this one show.  If the collaboration and the show is a success, I plan to repeat this platform and find ways to bring Rolling RV Theatre to San Diego and beyond!

Please consider helping this magical treat come to life!!!

Thank you,
Erika
