Final Expenses For Skittles Fight with Cancer

Skittles is a sweet, loving boxer. My husband has had her since she was 9 weeks old. He is in the Army and she has seen him through many deployments. She is so full of life and love. Her bark, her howl, her hop around the house just lights up the entire area. Her name is Skittles, but we some times call her Skit Skat Scootle Doot. She is such a fighter. Even through all of this, she has not given up. She is wanting to fight and we are going to fight for her. My 6 year old son and her are so great together. They play ball together all the time, they even play soccer. Skittles is kind of a ball hog, but we don't mind. Did you know Skittles is a world traveler? She went to Korea with us when my husband was restationed. It was not even an option to leave her behind. When she became my husband's dog, she became family. There was no way we were not going to bring her. We made a promise to her that she is family through it all, until the end.

Skittles is my HUsband's baby, and has become mine. She has seen us all through so much. Through our son almost dying, to myself becoming paralyzed for a period, through my husband's military service. She has always stood by us, never faltering. And now we will do the same for her.

Skittles was diagnosed with lung cancer last week. We thought we had a few months, but it did not turn out that way. We went to a holistic vet on Tuesday and talked about nutrition options. Skittles is incredibly underweight from her cancer. She had recommended that we go back to ur vet and get an EPI test done and have the fluid around her heart drained. We headed to the vet the next morning, Wednesday. I noticed that morning when we were walking to the car, she was a little wobbly and out of it. We got to the vet and she was starting to cross her legs and not be able to stand. They checked her oxygen levels and they were low, in the 80s low. We immediately headed to the specialists. They did an EKG and Xray when we got there. They found that her heart was not pumping the blood correctly and she needed heart medication and oxygen. She stayed there for a few hours and then came home. Once home we noticed that she was breathing heavily, shaky ,and off balance. We brought her right back to the specialist emergency hospital. She was immediately hospitalized. Skittles was close to death. They kept her overnight and gave her IV steroids, heart medicine and fluids. Immediate surgery was needed to remove the mass in her lung and the fluid around her heart. So here we are the night before surgery. Scared, anxious, nervous, even excited. She needs this surgery to save her life, no matter what the cost. She will have open chest surgery in the morning, and we will have a vet bill around $6,500.
