Eyy whats up fam, my name is Re’Sean Pates! And today is a really special day for me. Reason 1, today is my 31st birthday! [September 16th]
One of my biggest goals for myself coming into my 30’s is to wholeheartedly step out on the gifts and talents i’ve been blessed with, and to use my life’s experiences to create art that will not only be dope, but will encourage, strengthen, give hope, laughs [cuz if yall know me, i just might be a little crazy], and to share some good, positive black stories through mediums that i love & operate in: visuals, music, and dance!
For the new friends just meeting me for the first time, lemme tell you about myself.
I am a |Singer|Dancer|Choreographer| one half of your now new favorite entertainment company & podcast called “My 2 Black Friends”| JUST A YOUNG, GIFTED AND BLACK STORYTELLER.
For the past 10 years I’ve been super fortunate to have been a part of some amazing projects and worked under some of the best storytellers in the industry!
Which brings me to reason #2 of why today is so special to me:
I’ve been sitting on this dream of mine for the past 4 years. All because of fear: didn't feel like I was good enough to do it, afraid of what people would think or say when they saw & heard my work, how would I even pull my ideas off, etc, all the insecurities that come flooding. But AINT NOBODY GOT TIME FOR THAT ANYMORE! This past year, life has shown us all that we are on borrowed time. Covid, the continued fight to exist as a black human being, and losing people who have made such an impact on my life as a little black boy to now being a grown man. Like Kobe Bryant & Chadwick Boseman. Losing those 2 great men really hit home for me that it is SO IMPORTANT to find your purpose, and to FULLY walk into your calling with everything you’ve got. And like i said, AINT NOBODY GOT TIME TO ALLOW FEAR TO KEEP YOU FROM DOING WHAT YOU KNOW YOU WERE MEANT TO DO! So with that being said, i am soooo excited to finally bring my dreams into reality, by creating my own first story, RE’STORED.
WHAT IS “RE’STORED” ?
RE’STORED is a music & visual album! Both individually able to stand on their own, and bringing them together is where this story was born! You get the opportunity to dive into the deep well of a black man’s mind, heart, spirit, his experiences, and the internal battles that are often fought & won or lost in the shadows -all told through the mediums of music, visuals, and dance.
CALL TO ACTION:
Now, for me to bring this story to life, I need your help! I’d love to be able to bring on some talented creatives to be a part of telling this story, and to make opportunities for us to do what we do best, CREATE! And we all know when the world is going crazy, it turns to the arts to get a moment's escape to help make sense of what's going on in their lives, to get some relief, and joy!
So starting today, and for the next 6 months, our goal is to raise at least $20,000! While we raise money, we will be creating the music and visual story. Then March 16th we will start shooting the visuals, and on September 16th 2021 we will debut RE’STORED to the world!
WHY YOU NEED THAT MUCH MONEY/WHERE IS IT GOING?:
-Lighting/filming equipment and crew
-Renting filming locations
-Editing/mastering music and videos
-Costumes
-Paying everyone involved on the project to the best of our ability
WHY SHOULD YOU DONATE?
-Because it's going to be dope!
-It gives us, the creative team, who are still out of work, the opportunity to do what we do best, CREATE, INSPIRE, and UPLIFT!
