Project Toni

In January of 2012 Toni went to the doctor to address what she thought were symptoms of aging, only to be told she needed an immediate biopsy. Results of this biopsy confirmed her worst fear. Toni was diagnosed with ovarian cancer at the young age of 60. As a single mother of three Ralston boys, Toni was no stranger to obstacles. She underwent surgery to remove the tumor that lead to a full hysterectomy and a full week of induced coma. Next challenge was chemotherapy. ...The doctors assured her that with a strict chemo plan, she should come out on the other side and with a clean bill of health, that is exactly what happened. After 2 years of clean scans, she got into a small car accident. Shortly after the accident she noticed her skin changing color. When her doctors did a scan they realized that the ovarian cancer had in fact returned attaching itself to her pancreas and liver. This time around, the prognosis wasn’t as hopeful. Due to these tumors being inoperable, the only way to extend her life was to endure another round of chemotherapy. Toni is handling this challenge with courage and hope. She has much to live for as she now has seven beautiful Grand Children, that also need her in their lives. Toni has lived each struggle handed to her with determination and independence, rarely asking for assistance. Her "can do" attitude makes it difficult for her to reach out for help, that is why those who love her are doing it on her behalf.
