Pretext, a new play by Phil Setren

Donation protected
My new play "Pretext' has been invited to the 'You Are Here Festival' in Canberra Australia in March of 2014. I would like to travel for the final rehearsals to do final re-writes and fine tuning for the production opening. I have secured accommodation and expenses, and am just raising the travel expenses from London to Canberra. "Pretext' is a romantic comedy about a couple falling in love in the internet age, which won this honour for a new play addressing '100 years of Correspondence' in this past summer's Manchester 24 7 Theatre Festival. These Festivals are unable to fund travel in the present economy, but encourage the importance of international collaboration, and a writer's work reaching a larger audience.Along with contributing to an International cultural exchange, you will be helping me personally as a backer to 'break-in' to the International Festival circuit, where I hope my plays will continue to be represented in the english speaking world. For an aspiring playwright, this visibility can result in larger commercial production in the future in commercial arena's like London's West End, New York's Off-Broadway and Broadway or U.S. National Touring. This financial appeal simply represents a sticky moment in a career that I have made steady progress in, and will continue to endure with as I have already invested 30 years of dedication. Here's your chance to help me with might be a break.

Phil Setren is a writer and a director based in London. This past summer, he entered his new play "Pretext' in a competition with Manchester's 24 7 Theatre Festival and The Portico Library as part of the '100 years of correspondence' art exhibition. The play was selected, and has been invited to Canberra's 'You Are Here' Festival. Other plays include 'Red Light Soho' and 'Three Minute Hero.' Phil has also directed new plays internationally, winning both a Time Out award and a Peter Brook Empty space award in 1994 and 1998 respectively. Phil is the founding Artistic Director of London New Play Festival, which has given over 100 new playwrights their first opportunity to have a new play staged.
