Prayers for Ecuador

Donation protected
On April 16, 2016, Ecuador was struck by a devastating 7.8 level earthquake and the destruction has hit many of the poorest areas. As of April 18, there are at least 350 dead, 2,068 injured, and these figures are likely to rise. The areas hardest hit are in the coastal Manabi and Esmeraldas provinces—towns like Pedernales, Portoviejo, and Esmeraldas (in case you want to Google images), many of which are now without electricity or running water. This region is made up of hardworking people living day by day to survive; as farmers, fishermen, chefs, housekeepers, domestic servants, etc. They need our help!

Ecuador is a small country of nearly 16 million people with an annual GDP per capita of roughly $6,345. Compare that to the USA's $54,629.

The following is from the World Bank's Poverty Analysis of Ecuador:
"The distribution of wealth is highly skewed, and close to four million Ecuadorians, about thirty-five percent of the population, live in poverty. Another seventeen percent are vulnerable to poverty. One and a half million Ecuadorians live in extreme poverty and cannot meet their nutritional requirements even if they spend everything they have on food. Poverty is higher in rural areas, where two out of three poor people live."

Raised money will be used to purchase some of the supplies mentioned above. If it is more convenient for you to donate through this medium, we would really appreciate the help! Donations can be made at www.GoFundMe.com/PrayersForEcuador. If you could share the page and encourage friends to also donate, that would be awesome! If you have any questions, feel free to reach out!

If you cannot make a monetary donation, we are also collecting itmes that the Ecuadorian Consulate in Newark, NJ have requested including:

Non-perishable food and bottled water, as well as clothes, diapers, blankets, tents, flashlights, candles, batteries, bug repellent, and first aid supplies (alcohol, bandages, gloves, etc.) to send to those most in need.
