Prayers For Bristol
As many of you know, my brother and his wife Rebecca, were blessed by God with twins after many, many years of infertility. On Monday, January 12, 2015, Ethan and Bristol were welcomed into the world. On Wednesday, a few days after birth, Bristol was diagnosed with a very rare abnormality known as Glottis Webbing. On that same day, Bristol was taken from their local hospital in Blairsville, Georgia by ambulance to Scottish Rites Children's Healthcare of Atlanta. Mom, Dad, newborn twin brother Ethan, and Grandparents followed behind little Bristol. Since Bristol's arrival at Scottish Rites, she has been through a preliminary surgery to determine the extent of her webbing and minor abrasions to enlarge her airway. She was intubated, and put on a ventilator to assist her with her breathing. Alan, Rebecca, and family have been with Bristol every minute of the day alternating between her and her brother Ethan at a near by hotel. Rebecca is going between the two to feed and love on her precious newborns.
After arrival at Scottish Rites and identifying the severity of the webbing the doctors gave several possible options for Bristol. In hopes that Bristol's airway would expand after the first procedure, the second option, tracheotomy, would prayerfully not be needed.
As I know my brother and his wife, they have diligently been praying for God to lead and guide them in how to proceed and care for Bristol if the initial procedure had not worked.
On January 21, Bristol really struggled
intensely with every breath she took. Her breathing became very shallow and labored. The doctors said that a tracheotomy would be needed for Bristol to thrive. Bristol had the tracheotomy procedure and is heavily sedated to ensure proper healing, comfort, and rest.
This has been a long and enduring week at Scottish Rites for my brother and his precious new family. This past week, Alan, Rebecca, and Rebecca's mother, and my parents, have been rotating their visits with Bristol at the hospital, and caring for Ethan (Bristol's twin)at a nearby hotel, since he is too little and unable to visit his sister. Alan and Rebecca were told by doctors after her tracheotomy that they have a long road ahead when it comes to Bristol and her care. The doctors approximated 6, 8, 12 weeks at Scottish Rites in Atlanta. As you can imagine, 6-12 weeks is quite expensive when a nearby hotel is needed for someone to stay to care for Ethan and rest for the family. They have been in contact with the Ronald McDonald House but there is a waiting list and it is a 45 minute drive from/to Scottish Rites. For their comfort and reassurance of being close in proximity to Bristol, I feel that I am being led to help in some little way. I can't provide for their entire stay in Atlanta so I am asking you to help! Please know that I understand if you can't help in any way monetarily, but please continue to keep Bristol and her family in your prayers! This time is already stressful for Alan and Rebecca, however, imagine what one less worry would do for them! Thank you for your time and as a family we greatly appreciate your thoughts, and prayers during this time!
