13-month-old Riley was recently diagnosed with Leigh Syndrome, a severe form of Mitochondrial Disease which affects the central nervous system. Leigh Syndrome is rare. It progresses rapidly and causes eating problems and difficulty gaining weight, weak muscle tone, and problems with movement and balance. It also causes severe breathing problems. There is currently no cure for Leigh Syndrome and the prognosis is very poor.
This page was created for Riley's parents in hopes of alleviating some of the financial burden they will face in upcoming months.
The Marquis family has already experienced more heartache than any parents should ever endure. In 2012, their 12 week old son Zachary was taken too soon by SIDS. Prior to that, Amye and Jay lost twins, Alex and Avery, who were stillborn at 23 weeks. Now their family is struggling to understand their daughter's devestating diagnosis while maintaining a sense of normalcy for her twin brother, Carter. Let's help Amye and Jay so they can cherish every second of Riley's beautiful life!
