Prayers for Rayne Bishop - Transplant

Rayne’s story;

Hello everyone, my name is Rayne Bishop and I am 4 years old. I live in Fredericton, New Brunswick with my parents Steve and April and I also have an awesome big brother named Hunter. I was diagnosed at the age of 9 months with severe congenital neutropenia which basically means I cannot fight bacterial infections. Since my diagnosis I have been seen at a few different hospitals, so far I have been in Fredericton at the Dr. Everett Chalmers Regional Hospital, in Halifax at the IWK Children’s Hospital and in Toronto at Sick Kids Hospital. I had been taking a daily injection of G-CSF (Granulocyte Colony Stimulating Factor, aka Neupogen) which had been working pretty well up until a few weeks ago. On July 9th, 2014 I was diagnosed with leukemia, AML to be exact, which is a cancer that begins in your bone marrow. On July 20th I finished my first 10 day cycle of chemotherapy. So far the first cycle has gone relatively well and I am feeling ok.

With a diagnosis of leukemia added to my severe congenital neutropenia I will now require a bone marrow transplant. As of today the plan is that I will continue with my chemotherapy treatments, in Halifax, until a bone marrow match is found. My family has already been tested and unfortunately they were not a match so we are currently waiting for a match to be found through the international bone marrow registry. The transplant will have to happen in Toronto and my parents will both need to travel with me and stay with me as we concur that hurdle. The Doctor’s have told us that if all goes well we can expect to be in Toronto for 6-8 weeks and then back to the IWK for an additional 3 months. My estimated total recovery time is 9 to 12 months.

My new “home” is the 6th floor of the IWK Children’s hospital where I am staying with my Mommy and my Papa and big brother visit as often as they can. So far I have had some visitors which is awesome, I love seeing my friends and family. This is not going to be an easy road for me and my family but with the prayers, love and support from my family and friends it will not be a road that we are travelling on alone.

Dear friends and family of the Bishop’s;

As you have just read the Bishop family is in need to prayers and support. I suspect that many of us have held our own children a little tighter since July 9th and wondered what on earth we can do to help this family. We have had discussions with Steve and April to try to find out what their immediate needs are and what we can do to help ease some of the stress so that they can be together and focus on their children. Although financial help is not the only way to show our support it is something that is a cause of stress, as we can all imagine and understand. We have created this GoFundMe account as a way that people who are willing and able to donate financially can do so, donations can be made anonymously if you so choose. All funds from this account will go directly to the Bishop family and will be used at their discretion to cover costs and expenses that they incur during the next several months. The Bishops are going to need all sorts of help and support over the next several months so let’s get behind them and let them know that we are all with them as they face this challenge. Thank you!
