On August 14, 2014 a dear young lady, Loressa Joy Pecoraro, was seriously injured in a head on collision when someone crossed over into her lane of Hwy 380 in Denton County. She was taken by helicopter to Parkland Hospital in Dallas. She has many broken bones in both legs and both arms, but praise God, her brain and major organs were undamaged.

Loressa injuries are quite extensive. She has broken both femurs (thigh bone), a shattered right knee, broken the radius and ulna in both forearms, broken several fingers, broken right humerus (upper-arm), broken shoulder blade, multiple fractures in her feet, an open tibia wound, broken ribs, collapsed lung, some fragment by her spine, and has had 14 units of blood.  After many surgeries over the past few weeks, Loressa now has 6 titanium plates, 1 titanium rod, and over 60 titanium screws holding her broken bones togther. Needless to say, her rehab and recover will be lengthy. The doctors have told her that it will be 3 months before she can put any weight on her more damaged right leg and will be in a wheelchair for some time. They have said that it will be close to a year before she has fully recovered.

Since the accident, her progress has been miraculous. When she came off of the ventilator Loressa expressed that she wanted all that has happened to her to bring glory to the Lord. She has enjoyed the conversations with many of her visitors and has asked many of them how they are doing and thanked them for coming and praying for her. On the Saturday after the accident, she was able to meet the young man who hit her. He expressed his sorrow about the accident and, in a beautiful picture of God's grace towards us, Loressa told him that she forgave him.

After spending 22 days in Parkland Memorial Hospital, Loressa began the next phase of her recovery at a rehab hospital. Her physical and occupational therapy sessions are quite painful and daunting. She has come a long way but still has further to go. Please continue to pray for healing and strength.

As a graduate from Texas Tech University, Loressa was about to start her first full year as a teacher at Denton High School as a Family and Consumer Science teacher. She was also starting her first year as the freshman cheerleader coach. Her desire is to be a godly influence to those young girls just starting out in high school with all its pressures.

Serving the Lord is most important to her. Loressa's heart for the Lord, her love for singing, and her attitude for service make her beauty shine even brighter. Loressa and her family have served in worship, youth, and other ministries since she was a little girl. Loressa is a gifted singer and songwriter. She has helped to lead worship since she was 13 and most recently helped to lead worship at Redeemer Church in Lubbock, TX. She has been a mentor to many younger women and is a great example of a young woman whole-heartedly serving the Lord.

She loves being with her family, going on daddy/daughter dates and having fun with her friends. Her nieces and nephew fill her with joy.

Loressa's expenses will be mounting up as the care and recovery is projected to be a long road. Beyond her medical expenses, loss of income, and continued payments for health benefits will be other necessities.

Thank you in advance for all for your support and your prayers. As you can imagine there will be an accumulation of expenses and it would be such a blessing if we could help them financially as much as possible.

Prayers and encouragement are much desired as well. You can send cards and letters in care of First Baptist Church, The Colony

Loressa’s favorite scripture passage is Psalm 23:

The Lord is my shepherd,
I shall not want. He makes me lie down in green pastures;
 He leads me beside quiet waters. He restores my soul;
 He guides me in the paths of righteousness
 for His name’s sake. Even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death,
 I fear no evil, for You are with me;
 Your rod and Your staff, they comfort me. You prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies;
 You have anointed my head with oil;
 My cup overflows. Surely goodness and lovingkindness will follow me all the days of my life,
and I will dwell in the house of the Lord forever.
