Prancer -Help Lil' Dog with Big Heart

Donation protected
PRANCER went into HEART FAILURE two weeks ago unexpectedly & quickly, the sweetest little dog with a BIG HEART- literally, & EXPENSES are adding up fast! Prancer's Diagnoses is Congestive Heart Failure, Pulmonary Edema and a Grade 4/6 Heart Murmur from Mitral Valve Prolapse. He's on medications, needs or has already had an: echo-cardiography (ultrasound) to measure heart size, blood flow,to figure out the severity of the mitral valve prolapse, chest x-rays, EKG & ongoing blood work because I'm guessing at the effectiveness of the medicines he's currently taking: vetmedin, enalapril, & lasix that affects not only his heart, but his kidneys.

Prancer is a smart lively sweet-spirited 5 1/2 yr old Pomeranian mix who looks a bit like a chow because his fur just poofs up. This diagnosis is such a shock to me and anyone who knows him because he was playing, running, jumping & catching his ball less than 2 weeks ago.

Who Is Prancer?
Five years ago Prancer was a rescue that landed on my doorstep before Christmas (thus the name "Prancer") - he was a mess in the beginning. I'll tell you about his wonderful story sometime. He can make me laugh so hard because he prances, kind of skips on an angle when he's excited! He's part of duo with 9 yr old Lil' Vixen's, she is his shadow. Prancer is the caretaker in the house, official eye & ear cleaner. Even the cat goes to him for a good wash!

Prancer LOVES to catch the ball more than anything in life, and he's a equal opportunity kind of guy! I swear he does this - he gives everyone a turn to throw the ball to him! haha! He literally takes it to them and plops it right in front of their feet.
I'm devastated that My Prancer has gone from being a ball-a-holic & life of the party to a sick little boy SO FAST!

June 1, 2013, I took him to the vet because it was after the second night of him coughing & breathing fast. I honestly thought it was allergies since the pollen count was so high here in TN, and on the news, they mentioned about respiratory issues. I gave him some medicine for allergies. The next night it got serious - We went to our emergency vet visit.

It was heart-breaking to see the chest x-ray as the vet explained about his enlarged heart, & the leakage from the mitral valve not closing properly. The vet is doing a great job, but it's the standard kind of care that regular vets do in this situation. They are not specially trained in this area. Things are not going smooth right now for Prancer, and I'm bringing him in again to see if his potassium, sodium, phosphorus, calcium levels are okay. Right now I feel like I'm gambling with my little one's life because I don't have the money to do more. In two weeks there has already been close to a $1000 spent so he really needs to be seen by a cardiology specialist. Depending on the results of testing, and the cardiac workup - there is a great chance they could put Prancer on a medication combination specifically for him, and he could have a chance to live a pretty happy life for several more years. I won't know unless we can get these tests and see the cardiology vet. The irony is that I just finished helping another dog who had heart-worm and so many of my friends already made that possible. I figured my fur-kids are healthy so expenses for their care is manageable. I've spent money helping animals in need and raised funds for shelters spay/neuter community programs, and now here I need help & don't have the money for my own little guy : (

I want to take Prancer to the University of Georgia Veterinary Hospital to see a Cardiology specialist there. I need to know if its even possible to medically manage his condition on medication while making sure he has quality of life. Maybe there is some kind of procedure that can help. I just don't know. At the end of the day I don't want him to suffer - he doesn't have to be a hero. But he's looking at me right now, and I know he still wants very much to be here! I love him so much, and if you can help - Prancer will be forever grateful & so will his mommy.

Please help Prancer....
ANY AMOUNT helps - there is no amount too small. It all adds up so please - even if its $5 - Thank You!!

I will keep you updated, account for expenses, and post pictures. Even through all of this - he smiles at me. I think he knows I love him, and he knows that "mommy will fix it if she can."

Please Help and share with your friends. If by some reason there is an abundance and I should find us with more funds then we need - we will donate it to another dog listed here with cardiac issues needing help. Thank you! Thank you!!
