Medical Equipment for the DR

Tax deductible

WHAT YOU ARE FUNDING

Be a part of life changing medical, dental and surgical procedures for residents of rural villages in the province of Samana, in the Dominican Republic. Midwest Medical Mission, a US 501(c)(3) has arranged through Project Cure, another US non-profit, to have a cargo container full of medical , surgical, dental and anesthesia equipment and supplies donated to a rural hospital. This hospital has been built for eight years but has been unable to perform one operation, due to a lack of surgical equipment and supplies. Your needed contribution will help pay for cargo shipping, container cost and customs fees. Let’s learn the backstory.

THE BACKSTORY
For the past nineteen years, a team of medical volunteers from Midwest Medical Mission have travelled to a small city, in Samana, DR, to perform life changing surgeries, fit residents with prosthetics, and conduct medical and dental procedures.  Their work, as amazing as it is, has been performed in a very basic clinic. Years ago in a nearby village  a small hospital was built, but has not been used for surgeries due to a complete lack of medical/surgical equipment. This rural hospital was recently given an opportunity to receive hundreds of thousands of dollars worth of used equipment and supplies, but we need your help getting it there! First  meet the volunteers.

THE VOLUNTEERS
The heart of Midwest Medical Mission is the dedicated team of volunteers who travel from all over the US to the Dominican Republic at their own expense. After taking time away from work they donate their expertise to villagers in need of life changing medical, surgical and dental procedures. The volunteers include nurses, physicians, surgical techs, surgeons, dentists, anesthesia personnel, interpreters and others.  This past October the team of nearly 40 professionals saw 650 clinic patients, performed 76 surgeries and completed 76 dental procedures. Amazing work under poor conditions but how dire are the conditions?

HOW DIRE ARE CONDITIONS?
Conditions at the present clinic are basic. The volunteers literally travel with supplies and instruments and have to use portable hand held lights in the room they operate in.  A permanent hospital, with equipment, instruments and supplies will make a HUGE difference in the quality and quantity of care the team can provide. Let's look at the opportunity.

THE OPPORTUNITY
Project Cure, another 501(c)(3) has approved Midwest Medical Mission and the hospital to receive much needed equipment for free but we need to raise the money for shipping, container costs and customs fees. We invite you to participate in this opportunity that  will change the lives of thousands of residents of the Samana province by donating to our cause. Residents are poor and often have to travel far, on unreliable transportation, to see physicians and have surgical procedures.  Please help us fund life changing improvements for the people of this rural province. Thank you for coming with us on this journey and donating today. Every contribution gets us closer to making a difference in the lives of the residents of Samana.
