Help New Mom With Medical Bills

Amanda delivered a beautiful baby girl via emergency cesarean section on June 17. Baby Greta was a footling breech, had the cord wrapped around her neck, and had swallowed meconium. Her heart was barely beating and they had to do CPR on her to revive her. Greta's APGAR was 1 but went up to 5 after five minutes, so we are praying there will be no lasting effects. However, Amanda developed a severe infection at the incision site, and she has been in the hospital ever since (two weeks and counting). She has endured daily, painful packing of the deep wound, and she had to give up breast feeding due to the morphine and myriad antibiotics she has been taking (they have been through several "cocktails" of antibiotics but nothing seems to be able to knock out the infection). It's a difficult time for not only Amanda but for the entire family. She gets daily visits from Greta and her 4-year-old, Sean (who is really missing his mommy). Even though they have health insurance through John's job, there is a $13,000 out-of-pocket threshold with high deductibles and co-pays. Even though Amanda's health is the focus now, they will be hit with huge medical bills, which have started coming in already. Asking for help is very difficult; but so many friends have asked what they can do to help and even suggested starting a GoFundMe page, we are swallowing hard and giving it a try.
