Pierce Kenji's Recovery Fund

Donation protected
The weekend of Thanksgiving, Pierce Kenji Hunsaker was just about to continue riding by motorcycle from New York to Mexico, to spend the winter climbing 2000-foot limestone cliffs. He has spent most of the past two years traveling and living out of a tent, devoting his life to rock climbing, highlining, and adventuring.

Sunday, shortly after spending the holiday with his family in Richmond Virginia (his hometown), Pierce took a 40-foot fall and hit the ground as he was sport climbing granite Civil War buttresses along the James River.

Pierce suffered for a week at VCUs trauma center, undergoing multiple surgeries and having much of his spine fused together. Doctors say it's miraculous he wasn't paralyzed, even more that he is alive at all. We are thankful he has just started learning to walk again, though the progress is slow and one arm is in a cast making life even more complicated.

The bills have started coming in. Pierce won't have any means of his own for quite a long time; the surgeons expect him to recover slowly over the course of the next 6 months to a year.  His expenses will start to pile up, and he's largely helpless for the time being, even in dressing and feeding himself. Luckily he is strong and we hope he might fight to make a full recovery in record time, but for now he and we need your help to bring him back to the life he loves, and that others are inspired by.

Even a few dollars go a long way towards letting Pierce realize his dreams again some day. If you ever thought of buying this young man a drink, now is a time those $5 will mean the absolute most. If you know Pierce, or even just know of him, please, please help in any way you can. Even if you can't afford to give, maybe just saying something nice about him can go a long way towards his recovery as well.
