Piccolo Petey - A Little Italian Journey

Donation protected
"It's the little things that make the big difference." Ever heard that, or another version of it? Well, I couldn't agree more and I firmly believe that being deliberate with small actions, mindful of small accomplishments, and motivated to make small improvements are the best little secrets for success.

I'm Shalishah "Petey" Franklin and I'm on a little journey to Italy. That's "piccolo" in Italian. So "Piccolo Petey" feels a little right.

I'm proud of everything I've accomplished in my marketing career thus far; I positioned a paper producing/tree chopping company as eco-friendly and sustainable. I put Dolly Parton and Elvis Presley in the same pink Cadillac and drove them across Tennessee in :30 seconds. I showed the world the best that Memphis has to offer, from Beale Street Flippers to Hot Buttered Soul. I have taken a brand new rum brand on a nautical excursion across the country and brought new fans on board. I have helped the world's first USDA certified organic ready to pour cocktail plant over 10,000 trees with their one-for-one program and virtually prove that drinking is great for the environment. I have Ninged it, Tweeted it, Posted it, Tagged it, Linked it, Followed it, Pinned it, Shared it and sometimes Hid it for a host of brands who finally understand that Social Media Marketing, like rap music, is not going away...

So, what's next?

In May 2013, I competed in an international partial scholarship competition for a Masters in Design and Marketing of Luxury Goods at Domus Academy in Milan, Italy.

The competition required that I understand current luxury travelers, evaluate a major five-star hotel and offer up three marketing pillars towards improving their desirability. I was told that dozens of entries were received from all around the world. I was also told that I won first place!

So now I'm preparing to embark on a year-long journey in Milan which includes workshops, lectures, studio visits to some of the most well-respected luxury brands in the world...from Ferrari to Versace and everything in between. I will also have the opportunity to complete a three-month internship...fingers crossed for Prada.

So, how can you help?

My little Italian journey also includes quite a few big expenses including the 30% of tuition that I'm required to pay, books, quaint but costly apartments, transportation, student visas, flights, international calling plans and food, to name a few.

It's completely worth it. I will come back to the states with a Masters, fluent in Italian, well-traveled, well-versed in the new luxury consumer and ready to conquer the next phase of my career.

To do so, I could really use your support. Anything helps, everything is a blessing, and I really hope to make you proud!!

Thank you!

Petey
