Hi my name is Baguette and I'm a rescue dog. This is my story...
I'm an 8 year-old Rat Terrier/Chihuahua mix. For the first 6 years of my life, I was neglected, underfed and poorly socialized -- and I had all kinds of worms living inside my belly and chest. When SuperStorm Sandy hit, I was abandoned by my owner and placed in an animal shelter that euthanizes unwanted hounds like me. I was well on my way to becoming one of the approximately 7,397 shelter animals who are put to death EVERY DAY across America. I was living on the edge, but thank goodness the nice people at Animal Haven NYC came along one day and saved me from doggie death row.
A few weeks after the storm, while I was getting healthy at Animal Haven, I was fostered and then adopted by some nice humans (see Big L and Suze below) who let me move in and take over their NYC apartment. I've been living the life there -- eating like a king and barking my head off! And although I have some behavioral issues, I know my life hasn't been the same since we crossed paths. The humans spoil me and we love to travel together, eat good food, meet new friends and see amazing things!
So why are we here, you ask? Well, we had the brilliant idea of combining the things we love most (travel, food, friends and sightseeing) into a campaign that will drive awareness of the many benefits of pet adoption and provide financial support for No-Kill Animal shelters around the country . My humans always tell folks I'm a "comic and a genius" and that so-called "less desireable" dogs deserve a 1st look or a second chance. #adoptdontshop #petrescue
The Pet Rescue Road Trip is a 4-week, cross country road trip (April 11 - May 10, 2015) during which my humans will chauffeur me coast-to-coast-to-coast in their SUV to see the famous National Parks and other points-of-interest around this great country! The trip kicks-off on National Pet Day and runs through National Pet Week. We will stop in major cities to take photos with friends and supporters and to visit No-Kill shelters along the way. Our starting goal is to donate a minimum of $2,000 each to at least 6 shelters (including Animal Haven NYC) and to cover some of our expenses. The more money we raise, the more shelters we can support and the more animals will be spared.
