In 2010, in the coastal Peruvian fishing town of Chimbote, a group of women met and bonded at a battered women's program focused on ending family violence. The women became friends amid turmoil and vowed to use their experiences and education to help others. They formed an advocacy / entrepreneurship group called Pushaq Warmi, or Guiding Women.
In 2010, in the coastal Peruvian fishing town of Chimbote, a group of women met and bonded at a battered women's program focused on ending family violence. The women became friends amid turmoil and vowed to use their experiences and education to help others. They formed an advocacy / entrepreneurship group called Pushaq Warmi, or Guiding Women.
Pushaq Warmi has grown into one of the region's most looked-to sources of information and strength in empowering women. In addition to a baking collective they operate, members produce a weekly radio show about women's issues in Peru.
Currently, the radio program reaches about 1,800 listeners in the region. But with YOUR support, they plan to more than double that audience - a move that potentially could save lives. Pushaq Warmi hopes its message of domestic violence prevention, education for women and children, and economic opportunities for women will reach between 3,600 - 5,000 listeners with this $5,000 in seed money to boost radio show production and news gathering opportunities.
In addition to helping grow their radio audience, your donation will go toward professional development and training for Pushaq Warmi women. It also will help purchase much-needed equipment - examples below.
