Help Perla Study Abroad to Prague

For this upcoming summer, I have the blessing to have been accepted to learn at Charles University in Prague, Czech Republic. I grew up in an urban environment in the well-known, New York City. Nobody I knew was familiar with the term “Study Abroad.” Since I was young, my mother always emphasized that education was the key to expanding your horizons. I can’t think of another opportunity that would diversify and expand my education more than studying abroad. I am both the eldest and first child of my family to go to college and uphold myself as a role model for my siblings. This amount will be going towards my flight to enter Europe. 

In my close-knit family, I am constantly being depended on and going to Prague, it will give me a sense of liberation and temporary, happy escape that I will forever cherish and reflect. This experience is something I’m sure will serve to make me more confident, not only in my academic experience but also in enriching my overall undergraduate experience by interacting with a culture that is completely foreign to me. The opportunity of studying and living at Charles University will allow me to immerse myself in the language and culture in ways not possible while at home.

As an independent female, my upbringing passed quickly and I started working at an early age, limiting myself to living a teenage life and not be dependent on others. In the midst of juggling academics and being a student on the dean's list. I have two jobs on campus and is still not enough to make this dream a reality.
