Sometimes dreams really do come true, but the reality is the effort and expense can also overshadow the dream. Amanda Pelkeys’ dream of becoming an Olympic athlete came true as the result of her commitment, hard work, and talent. These things you can’t put a price on. Amanda, or “Pelks” as her friends call her, will be playing with Team USA Women’s Hockey in the 2018 Winter Olympics in Pyeong Chang South Korea. Her number one fans will be there, as they have been every step of the way. From the moment she strapped on her brothers rollerblades in the kitchen and they built an outdoor rink in the backyard, her family’s support played a huge role in making this dream happen. The creators of this campaign realize the tremendous financial burden attending the Olympics can be and encourage you to DONATE NOW! Let’s send John and Ann to represent Vermont and share in the pride of having their daughter and our own Olympian be part of Team USA.
Here is a way for our community to give back to Ann and John who have been generous in helping others chasing their dreams. Whether it was assisting with BYSA hockey where Amanda played, actively participating in the Travis Roy foundation, supporting their daughter in the push for women’s equality in hockey, or traveling to see the Boston Pride and Amanda bring home the first Isobel Cup in the inaugural season of women’s pro hockey, there is no one more deserving of this dream come true. As a member of the community who would give someone the shirt off his back (and probably has) John has donated hours into young athletes, The VSAHA, and civic programs to encourage youth sports.
