Pedal For Polio

Pedal for Polio is a small team of friends, with an ambitious goal.  We want to contribute to a polio-free world by riding the 500 mile journey from Los Angeles to San Francisco, CA in an attempt to raise awareness and money for polio vaccines. We hope to make a statement that's much bigger than ourselves, our actions, or the event. We can achieve this together with your help.

Here are the sad facts:  Polio is a virus that affects the nervous system and can lead to paralysis and death. This virus affects mostly children under the age of five and prevents them from enjoying the simple aspects of life such as hugging others or even walking.   Although polio has no cure, it is 100% preventable.  With a vaccine that costs as little as 60 cents, a child can be protected against polio. Today, polio is eradicated in all but three countries in the world:  Afghanistan, Nigeria, and Pakistan.  Polio cases has been reduced by 99%, and we are very close to creating a polio-free world.  By meeting our fundraising goal, we can help prevent polio and save more than 8,000 lives. 

Our team (Jose Diego, Chris Rendon, Sebastian Gonzalez, and our advisor Huy Hoang) have been a part of the Interact Club at Hawthorne High School, sponsored by the Hawthorne Rotary Club.  We have seen the effort that Rotary International has put forth over the years in the attempt to end Polio, and 100% of the money that we raise will go towards Rotary's "End Polio Now" campaign.
