Paul's Got Gunk in His Lungs

At first we thought it was the nasty flu bug, but boy was that optimistic thinking. After 9 long, late hours in the ER, Dad (Paul) was admitted to the hospital with Pnemonia in early January. It took a week in the hospital, some time in isolation, and countless tests to determine that Dad has a lung infection that manifests very similarly to Tuberculosis.
Not fun.
And to add insult to injury, Dad's storm sewer recently backed up into his basement resulting in a heightened risk for mold growth. With Dad's already compromised lungs, this has the potential to be very serious if it is not taken care of immediately.
There is a long uphill battle in store for him, but you better believe he is committed to kicking this thing in the butt! He's got a year of some pretty tough antibiotics ahead of him and hours of therapy and exercises to get him back on his feet.
At this point in time, one of Dad's lungs is 2/3 blocked. This obviously means breathing is tough for him, but that also means everything in life is 100 times more diffulcult.
Dad's new walker helps stabilize him enough to get from his bed to the living room and from the living room to the bathroom. But his lungs aren't strong enough to take even this type of "tortoise pace" exercise.
Since we (Alice and Claire) live out-of-state, Dad is in desperate need of in-home support in addition to his temporary PT, OT, and nurse visits provided by Medicare. In order for him to remain independent as a long term goal, Dad needs to hire a caregiver to help support him through his recovery and with everyday tasks that we often take for granted (like putting on your shoes or making yourself some lunch).
We are so grateful for our friends, family, and community members for all you have done to support us thus far. You have spent hours in the ER with us, made us meals, and offered advice. You have even let us borrow your hot tub or beach apartment to escape from life for a moment.
We hate to ask you to do one more thing, but we are starting this GoFundMe campaign to connect with loved ones to see if they can pitch in a few dollars to help with this undertaking. Dad's recovery depends on the support of a caregiver and immediate remedy of the basement, so any amount you are able to pitch in is astronomically helpful. Whether it's $5 or $50... any little bit helps!
