My name is Bill, I have been very blessed throughout my life with good health and a great support system of family & friends. I am forever for the many blessings in my life, and I know that others are not as lucky as I.
My cousin Lynn is an amazing woman, who takes care of others with a smile on her face, never faltering. Unfortunately, her son Paul, at just 37 years young, is one of those under her care.
In 2008, Paul was diagnosed with cancer. The cancer was so advanced that doctors first had to reduce the size of the tumor, before attempting removal. After an initial reduction surgery, and months of strong chemotherapy, another surgery was performed to finally remove the tumor. By this time the tumor had also destroyed his left kidney, which had to be removed as well.
Paul spent several months recovering from his first round of surgeries and chemotherapy, only to find in 2009 that the cancer had returned, this time showing up in the liver. He went through an even stronger series of chemotherapy treatment which, thankfully, stopped the cancer.
However, as a result of these procedures scar tissue built up over time and In February 2016 he underwent surgery in an attempt to repair the damaged areas, which failed. In the doctor's words, portions of his bladder system were "obliterated".
On Sept 20th 2016 Surgery is scheduled to take another shot at repairing the damaged areas. This time Paul will have three surgeons on his side; one from Columbia University in NYC, one from North Carolina, and a local Philadelphia specialist at Temple. Recovery will take months the doctors are being guardedly
optimistic for a full recovery hoping that ongoing medical procedures and visits be reduced.
From 2008 through late 2015 he was able to work, but only off and on. He required several months at a time off to recover from surgeries and to undergo the multiple rounds of chemotherapy. Since the beginning of this year, Paul has been unable to work, and disability has yet to determine if he qualifies. The bills are quickly piling up, from past medical expenses to all current medical and living expenses resting on the shoulders of Lynn and the family.
Paul and Lynn have both remained very optimistic through all of this, never asking for help. They’ve been doing their best to enjoy moments of joy and normality
through the doctor visits and paperwork as Paul continues to serve at his church, spend time with friends and family and comes out to support his nephews playing sports. There should be more of these times for them. If anyone deserves it, it would be Paul (and Lynn). Anything you can give to help ease the burden of debt, and future medical expenses, that are accruing rapidly, would be greatly appreciated.
As John Wooden once said "the most important things in the world are family and love". Paul and Lynn need us, their family & friends known to them, and yet unknown at this time. There is no such thing as a small contribution, financially or emotionally. Every bit of prayer, thought, love & contributions to this campaign will help them now, and for years to come.
