Dumont Health Improvements

DHI has taken on a whole new meaning for Paul Dumont.  Originally DHI stood for “Dumont Home Improvements”. A successful personal business where Paul could explore his natural ability as a carpenter, and contractor, while helping others enhance their homes.  These days DHI signifies Paul’s hope for “Dumont Health Improvements” for Paul has been diagnosed with PPMS - Primary Progressive Multiple Sclerosis,  an incurable,  debilitating autoimmune disease of the central nervous system.

PPMS - Primary Progressive Multiple Sclerosis

Paul is a fun loving and dependable family member and friend, who over the years has been forced to drastically adjust his lifestyle as his MS symptoms escalate. He is determined to hold on to a positive attitude but he needs our help to raise money for a medical treatment that is not currently available in Canada. There is no time to wait as each month that passes brings further complications.

Paul experiences many of the symptoms typical to those who live with MS. Things such as extreme fatigue, sensitivity to heat, pain and numbness, weakness, lack of coordination, loss of muscle mass, vision problems, bladder problems, cognitive impairment and depression. Paul ‘s debilitating condition has forced him to give up his business, and because he was self-employed with no benefits or employment insurance , he has had to swallow his pride and ask for help.

With no cure in sight, Paul has been trying desperately to find some kind of answer that would slow the progression of his disease. He has tried a custom leg brace, Botox injections and physiotherapy until his coverage ran out. He has been on medical trials for spasticity and mobility medications and has even tried medicinal CBD oil, but unfortunately nothing has worked. His condition has continued to decline.

Now there is a ray of hope coming from Mexico.  An existing medical procedure called Hematopoietic Stem Cell Transplantation (HSCT) which is an established chemotherapy medical treatment successfully being used to halt the progression and in some cases reverse some of the symptoms of MS.

Sadly, this treatment, is not generally accepted by many local medical practitioners, the procedure is not currently financially covered or available in Ontario to those with PPMS, and it is expensive.

The goal of this page is to remove some of the financial burden and allow Paul and his family to concentrate on the healing process required.  The procedure, US exchange rate, accommodations, travel expenses and post treatment required will cost approximately $80,000 CDN.

The task of raising this much money seems so overwhelming and unachievable but they say “Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful, committed, citizens can change the world” and “Together we can do great things”.

Paul has learned how precious each day can be and hopes that people appreciate how lucky they are to have good health and mobility.  For that reason, any funds raised but not used for Pauls’ care will be donated back to another individual taking the same journey or the organizations which aid in the fight against MS

Paul’s journey will be fully documented and his progress can be witnessed online through this page, and a public facebook group called "dumont health improvements - fundraising group"

It is sincerely recognized that not everyone has the means to assist financially and that is completely understandable.  Spreading the word to others,  attendance at events and your well wishes and prayers will all help give Paul the hope he needs to continue his fight against MS.
