page has been created in an effort to raise money for medical bills for my loving Aunt and
Godmother, Patti Greaux. Meet my Aunt Patti, she is an amazing and motivational woman who has had to fight too many health battles throughout her life and is now fighting the toughest battle she has yet to face, Bladder Cancer. She is married to her husband,
Andy, and they have two children, Andrew and Alissa. The testimonials below will help you to understand the truly incredible woman that Patti is, and they are well worth the read!
"Maybe you know Patti, and maybe you don't. Maybe you're reading this because someone forwarded it to you. We're all asked to contribute to a lot of causes these days. But I need to tell you about Patti Greaux. I became close with Patti when I was going through one of the hardest times in my life. She barely knew me, but despite that she reached out to me in a way that few people in my life had "“ with enormous compassion, unconditional love, and unflagging support. At the time I had no idea what moved her to be so kind. But since then, I've realized that this is just who Patti is: the kind of friend who will go to bat for you no matter what, who will never let you forget the light inside, who believes in you even when you don't. As anyone who knows her knows well, Patti is the rarest of human beings. No one deserves cancer. But to see a person as deeply good, real, compassionate, loving, and humble be struck with this terrible disease, fight as hard as she can despite the pain of chemotherapy, and even change her lifestyle in myriad ways in an effort to outsmart it - only to be held back from better treatment by insurance and money woes - it just isn't right. Patti has spent her whole life giving to other people, never thinking of herself. Now it's time for us to give back. Patti deserves to not only afford the treatments she needs, in the right hospitals with the right trials to really beat this kind of cancer - but she deserves to have our love and support pour in so fast and furious that she can't help but feel how special she is. "So happy I can be part of this website for my friend Patti Greaux. I have known her and her family for 14 years and watched her children and family grow and change. Her twins Andrew and Alissa were 7 when we met at our summer swim club. Andrew is quiet, intelligent and ever supportive of his family. He showed his artistic abilities early drawing comic strips he shared with my son. Alissa was the swimmer, funny, driven, an easy friend. Her love of her family evident. Andy, the dad, is a hard worker, there for his family meeting the physical needs of the house and kids' schedules; financially through long hours of strenuous automotive mechanics; and emotionally in his unwavering presence. I have marveled at the visible bond of love between him and Patti. Having known each other since Patti was 16, they have grown into adults, parents and lifelong partners with grace and commitment. I have witnessed this family go through good and bad times, but none so trying as these. Previous personal and family illness and the first cancer took a toll on Patti physically and emotionally and on her family. Though through it all they have maintained their spirit and strength. Having already come through so much as a family, no one could have anticipated the emotional, physical, or financial demands that this new cancer would present. But I have no doubt that they will all weather this storm with the same degree of steadfastness, compassion, dedication, and hope that has maintained them thus far. My Aunt Patti began a long battle with her health back in 1990 when she found out she had a condition called Polycystic ovarian syndrome (PCOS). PCOS affects a woman's ovaries where cysts develop and cause infertility issues. Luckily, Patti was able to get pregnant and she had her twin babies in December 1992! Unfortunately she was unable to get pregnant again. A little over a year later, in 1994, she began having severe Gastrointestinal issues and had to have five different major abdominal surgeries in 1996, 1998, 1999, 2001, and 2003.
After going through all of these medical issues Patti felt that she needed to give back to the medical community, because of all the great things they had done for her, and she went back to school to become a nurse. She made a difference in the health care community even through a Uterine/Cervical Cancer diagnosis in 2008 in which her only course of treatment was to have a total hysterectomy.
Then in July of this year came more devastating news for our family, Patti was diagnosed with Bladder Cancer, specifically Adenocarcinoma. This time the cancer made it unfeasible to continue working and their family has lost an income. Only about 2% of bladder cancers are adenocarcinomas and almost all are invasive, including my aunts. It is characterized by a lump or tumor in the bladder and is likely to grow outside the bladder if aggressive. In August Patti had a mass removed and she started Intravesical chemo, BCG and oral chemo. Unfortunately her cancer has been very aggressive and a new malignant cell growth was found in October. She has a metastasis to the peritoneum and has not been given a prognosis that anyof us are happy to hear.
My aunt's health history makes hopes of getting into clinical trials very slim, so instead we are looking into alternative treatments. As it comes, these treatments are incredibly costly and on top of the other medical bills that have piled up and the family's loss of income due to her cancer, we are looking for any help you can give us! If a nurse or health care professional ever touched your life, donate to one of the angels who comfort us in the worst of times.
Please help my family and me get Patti the treatment she needs and deserves.
