I'm raising money to build and install a four-sided jumbotron in the Pat Burns Arena and any donation will help make an impact.  We will call it Burnsie's Scoreclock in Pat Burns honor.  ABOUT THE PAT BURNS ARENA Built in 2011 and named after one of the hockey world’s most influential coaches, the Pat Burns Arena aims to support and promote active and healthy lifestyles among both young and old alike. With its recent construction, state-of-the-art amenities and its proximity to Stanstead’s Quebec-U.S. border, this new facility offers surrounding communities the ultimate hockey experience. The arena is the result of a partnership between the Town of Stanstead and Stanstead College.  Pat Burns: life &amp; career Pat was born in Montreal in 1952. He began his coaching career with the Hull Olympiques of the QMJHL from 1984 to 1987. In 1987, he left Hull to become head coach of the Sherbrooke Canadiens of the American Hockey League. It was at this point that he discovered and consequently fell in love with the Eastern Townships. Although his career quickly took him beyond Sherbrooke, landing jobs with the Montreal Canadiens, the Toronto Maple Leafs,  Boston Bruins and the Stanley Cup winning New Jersey Devils, he always felt at home in the Eastern Townships. The naming of Stanstead’s new arena came very naturally. As an active member in Stanstead and the surrounding communities, Pat  was an obvious choice. His involvement in fundraising activities, such as Stanstead’s softball tournament benefiting muscular dystrophy, meant that he was well liked and well respected within the community. Pat was also involved with other fundraising activities in the Eastern Townships, including being the spokesman and honorary president of the Maison Aube-Lumière, a hospice for cancer patients in Sherbrooke. Sadly, Pat would experience cancer first hand, as he was diagnosed with colon cancer in 2004, liver cancer in 2005 and, in early 2009, inoperable lung cancer. In March 2010, Pat traveled to Stanstead to join Prime Minister Stephen Harper to announce that the federal and provincial governments had approved funding for the arena that was to bear his name. Pat’s last visit to Stanstead was in October of 2010 for the arena’s breaking ground ceremony. Unfortunately, Pat passed away on the 19th of November 2010. Nous l’appellerons ‘Burnsie’s Scoreclock’ en l’honneur de Pat Burns.   À PROPOS DE L’ARÉNA PAT BURNS Construite en 2011 et nommée en l’honneur d’un des plus influents entraîneurs dans le monde du hockey, l’aréna Pat Burns vise à supporter et à promouvoir un mode de vie actif et sain auprès des jeunes et des plus âgés. Cette récente construction, aux aménagements de pointe, près de la frontière avec les États-Unis, offre aux communautés environnantes l’ultime expérience de hockey.  L’aréna a pu être construite grâce à une partenariat entre la ville de Stanstead et Stanstead College.   LA VIE ET LA CARRIÈRE DE PAT BURNS Pat Burns est né à Montréal en 1952. Il a commencé sa carrière d’entraîneur avec les Olympiques de Hull de la LHJMQ de 1984 à 1987. En 1987, il quitte Hull pour devenir l’entraîneur du Canadiens de Sherbrooke dans la Ligue Américaine de hockey. C’est à ce moment qu’il a découvert et est tombé amoureux des Cantons-de-l’Est. Cependant, sa carrière la rapidement amené ailleurs, entre autres, avec le Canadiens de Montréal, le Maple Leafs de Toronto, les Bruins de Boston ainsi que l’équipe gagnante d’une coupe Stanley en tant qu'entraîneurdes Devils du New Jersey. Malgré tout ça, les Cantons-de-l’Est ont toujours été là où il se sentait à la maison. L’idée de nommer l’aréna de Stanstead en son honneur est venu tout naturellement. Étant un membre actif dans la communauté de Stanstead et de ses environs, Pat Burns était un choix évident. Son implication lors de levée de fonds tel que le tournoi de balle molle visant à amasser des fonds pour la dystrophie musculaire, a fait en sorte qu’il était très apprécié et respecté dans la communauté. Pat était aussi impliqué dans d’autre levée de fonds à travers les Canton-de-l’Est, incluant le fait d’être le président honoraire de la Maison Aube-Lumière, un hospice pour les patients atteints du cancer à Sherbrooke. Malheureusement, Pat combattra le cancer lui-même. Il fut d’abord diagnostiqué avec un cancer du côlon en 2004, un cancer du foie et 2005 et finalement, en début 2009, un cancer inopérable des poumons. En Mars 2010, Pat se rendit à Stanstead joint par le Premier Ministre de l'époque, Stephen Harper, pour annoncer que les gouvernements fédéral et provincial avaient approuvé les fonds pour la construction de l’aréna qui portera son nom.  La dernière visite de Pat à Stanstead se fera en Octobre 2010 pour la cérémonie de début des travaux.
