Marathon to help Dementia Research
WHY?
In 2012 I lost both my grandparents to Alzheimer’s. I believe that Alzheimer’s has to be one of the toughest illnesses to watch your loved ones live with as they become a shadow of their former selves and eventually fade away completely . It feels like you are reaching out to them as they slowly slip away off a cliff, and no matter how much you try and keep them close there’s no stopping their fall.
There are so many things I wish I could go back and change. I wish I could have understood more, I wish I could have been braver, I wish I had told them how much I love them more. Unfortunately I can’t change any of these things, but I can try and make a difference for the future.
The marathon I’ve committed to completing and all the preparation behind is in honour of my grandparents, but it’s for a future where no one has to experience the loss of a loved one to Alzheimer’s.
I’ve signed myself up for the International Patagonian Marathon in September 2020. This was a special choice, my grandparents immigrated to Australia from Chile.
THE MARATHON AND ME
On September 5th 2020 I'll be completing the International Patagonian Marathon, 42.2KM in the Chilean patagonia. I’m not a high performance athlete, far from it. I think I’d describe my running level as average plodder. I plod for long distances, I’m not fast but I get the job done. This will be a massive challenge but I know every step will be worth it.

My goal of $4220 is a symbolic number of $100 for every kilometer I run. I'd really appreciate any support you can give to The Dementia Australia Research Foundation as they continue their important research into Dementia and hopefully one day make Dementia a thing of the past. All donations here will go directly to the charity and are tax deductible as per Australian taxation regulation.
