Hi Friends and Family!
My parents, Frank and Pat Browne, have recently incurred extra medical costs due to Dad's cancer treatment at MD Anderson, starting in 2012 & Mom's current hospital stay (@ this point, we are not sure how much longer she will be hospitalized).
Dad is now Cancer Free but has ongoing appointments.
Mom was scheduled to have a Hiatal Hernia Repair on Dec 19, 2014. It was to be a simple, laparascopic w/robot assisted surgery. Due to the size of the hernia, the doctors were unable to complete the procedure and had to open her up. They told us it was one of the biggest hernias they had ever seen.
Her post op course started off uneventful...until 12/20. She had to be transferred to ICU d/t respiratory complications. She was transferred back to the surgical floor on 12/23 and was doing well. On Christmas Day, she was transferred back to ICU for respiratory and other complications. As of today, 1/3/15, she remains in ICU. She is stable but has multiple issues that are being addressed.
This hospital stay is going to add to their current medical costs tremendously. They are on a fixed income, and their home currently needs some construction.
