Help to rebuild Paliomilos after wildfire!
A big disaster has happened in the past week!
The forest of North-Evia burned down and took a lot of beautiful trees and places.
Paliomilos is an existing eco-farming project and life work of Giorgos together with other dedicated people.
My name is Iris Salvinia and together with my partner we are part of a group of like minded people. As a group we are buying the neighbouring orchard that we call Neomilos.
Together we are are building up a mutually supporting community living a sustainable life.
Paliomilos suffered big damage in the fire, to a smaller extend also Neomilos. Most of the support will go to Paliomilos and the surrounding forests.
The main production here is organic olives and olive oil, however we are trying to create a more biodiverse and sustainable do farming system and way of living.
So we planted many different fruit and almond trees, as well as having sheep, chickens and a vegetable garden.
When the fire came down the mountain Giorgos together with other people tried to prevent the fire from coming to the farm. However the fire came like a storm and was not to be stopped.
The fire took part of the house, the sheep shed, another house in construction, the caravan, the workshop and the garden. Also 250 olive trees burned to the ground, another 350 got severely damaged, as well as numerous fruit trees. Also the irrigation system got damaged and will need a lot of replacement.
To rebuild this place and maybe part of the forest we need money, time and manpower. It is going to be hard, but we are willing!
What do we want to do with these donations?
• buy new trees for the orchard
• buy materials to restore the irrigation system
• material to rebuild the animal shed
• replace tools lost in the fire
• if we have surplus donations we will use them for a reforestation effort of the surrounding forest
We do not know yet exactly how much money each of these need, as we will find out the costs step by step, we will keep you updated on the spending.
We want to buy the trees/materials directly from my bank account, and also reimburse some of the costs which were already paid by Giorgos by giving him the money.
