Paisley’s Ongoing Medical Expenses

Our precious Paisley Grace is a precocious, happy, active, and obviously adorable twenty-months-old toddler. For the past weeks, she has been suffering from a severe kidney infection, with high fevers and inexplicably spiking and plunging sugar levels. After several ER visits, multiple tests, and lengthy endocrinologist consultations, she was diagnosed with Type 1 Diabetes, also known as Juvenile Diabetes, a potentially life-threatening illness.
Paisley, my beloved grand-niece, is the first and only child of my baby brother’s child, Jordan (Satterwhite) Dorriety and her husband, Joshua Dorriety. They have not been able to accumulate savings; and insurance coverage is minimal... and expensive.
The cost for Insulin is $100 a pop, not covered by insurance. Same with test strips.
A trip to the hospital or doctor is 30 miles, one way, and we all know how costly gas can be.
Jordan and Joshua have been stunned by this diagnosis, and are taking steps to learn what is necessary to care for their daughter in the best possible way, round the clock. In these early, bewildering stages of the disease, experimentation with various foods is required, and expensive. Jordan, with family who all work, or live at a distance, and the possibly imminent emergency treatment or rush to the hospital necessary for her young daughter, is not able to work.
Needless to say, financial hardship is a given.
