Operation: Paint San Marcos!

Donation protected
San Marcos La Laguna is a town of over 5,000 people sitting on the banks of the breathtakingly beautiful Lake Atitlán in the Central Highlands of Guatemala. Every year, thousands of tourists from around the world visit San Marcos to bask in the serenity the Lake provides by being in its mere presence. The area along the shoreline in San Marcos, where most tourists hang out, is filled with colors and styles to compliment the amazing experience as well. However, the town's other neighborhoods, where the majority population of indigenous Mayan descent live, do not possess this same aesthetic experience. It is time to change this! We want to paint walls, houses, schools, and churches, with pictures, the history of this village, Mayan culture, patterns and sayings that inspire the people in these economically disadvantaged neighborhoods to dream, reach and believe! It is the very least we can do in return for enjoying the natural wonder of the world that is lake Atitlán! We are also taking advantage of this opportunity to paint anyone who runs a small business out of their home, to paint something pertinent to their business on the outside of it, to do a bit of economic development for small business owners at the same time! We already have agreements from many to paint their houses, and would like to involve young artists from the local high school to paint their own town, along with outside talent. The goal is to make the painting process a celebration of unity and creativity, by providing food to those who participate, and even live music! So please help by giving what you can and sharing this info, so we can be a part of the good news in this world! Thank you. Note:  The picture for our Gofundme is of a round of painting 7 houses we did back in August, but we would like to do more houses and recruit more local talent, in order to paint more vivid murals! Add me on Facebook:  Jay Jackson (San Marcos La Laguna) for a look into the projects our crew has been involved in around the lake for the last four and a half years!  We have built 12 houses for families in need, employed ex-convicts and at-risk youth with, worked with schools on school gardens and permaculture education, grown organic produce to provide for our sister non-profit, the Konojel Kitchen (All Together Foundation), installed vertical gardens in over 30 homes which reuse plastic waste, participated in reforestation efforts and trail improvement in the mountains of this municipality, installed 8 sanitary latrines, built wheelchair ramps for special needs children, and participated in city-wide trash cleanup initiatives.  Our dedication is to serving the needs of a villages on the western side of Lake Atitlan in the Cenral Highlands of Guatemala, and now it is time to take these efforts to the next level with our city-wide painting initiative!  Please support us on our journey to grow and serve the needs of this community in a way we could not have imagined when we first began!
