In an effort to strengthen the relationship between PS 527 and the Ghana Ministry of Education and in keeping with PS 527’s mission of social action, this first annual conference will afford experienced teachers the opportunity to share best practice in pedagogy with Ghanaian educators.  The teachers traveling to Ghana have been active participants in the Racial Equity professional development at PS 527.  In cooperation with Ama's ARC , this conference will provide teachers with the opportunity to see the world through the perspective of an African nation.  Teachers will have the honor to learn about Ghanaian culture and expand their cultural sensitivity beyond the classroom.

The teachers presenting at the conference are trained in culturally sensitive curriculum across all subjects.   The conference will address how to select curriculum that includes underrepresented populations, how to examine information in texts book for historical accuracy, and how to create developmentally appropriate lessons that meet children where they are on the learning spectrum as well as how they identify culturally and personally.  Through interactive workshops, teachers will share best practice with a focus on literacy, including guided reading, literature study, phonics, and writing.

Upon return, teachers will present to teachers, staff, and families, sharing the experience and what was learned from their Ghanaian colleagues.
